LTR Verified Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 I think Pompey should be up right now. He's destroying AA, but why was he struggling so much in AAA? Has he made an adjustment? Has he found confidence? What's to say he won't s*** the bed in the majors again?
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 I have a question.... in the Donaldson walk, does anyone else think they pitched around Donaldson to pitch to Jose? I would. Donaldson is on fire and Bats is on a hard skidder.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Osuna was due to give up a long fly. That 2.1% HR/FB was not sustainable. I don't think he is over used. Pitchers give up HRs and he was due. Happens to the best. The kid is nails.

The kid is nails. he's never pitched more than 44 innings in any year. he's pitched 39 already this year. That's a lot. I agree that it happens. I just wonder if his arm will hold up
LTR Verified Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 On Osuna: 3.43 xFIP... that's 60th out of 133 qualified relievers in the majors. Sorry, but he's not as good as you think he is.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 This loss isn't on Gibby or Osuna or anyone. Even the offense that scored 6 runs. These losses expose the Jays for what they really are, an elite offense with below average pitching and major holes on defense. Nothing more. Contenders are built from pitching out, you cant just mix and match players and hope for the best. The thing of it is that AA never knew how to build a winning team. He is good at some things, among those making good trades (Ironic) and acquiring elite talent. However he is terrible at knowing how to construct a proper contending club. This will not get better. Just project the pitching, some things may get better, the bullpen will. Hutch will. However outside of that there is little hope for improvement.

Sorry, but he's not as good as you think he is. sure... go for the numbers without even having a thought towards how he has been used. He's almost pitched as many innings already this year as he has any year of his career in the minors or Mexico league. sure, his numbers are not the best in the league but not taking into account that he has pitched so much already is one sided just to try to make your opinion more valid. it doesn't.

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 stop preaching in the GDT there is a fire gibbons thread for you to flame in. I didn't flame on Gibbons, though, I am done flaming. I would get upset if I still thought this was a contending team, but in many ways, I have faced the facts of what this team really is rather than hoping for what I wished it would be.

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Another important note is that despite the fact that Reyes was the last to bat, and Goins was already in the game, he did not replace Reyes at short. Makes you wonder though,

Funny to hear the ChiSox broadcasters rave about Osuna. He is clearly making a name around the league.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Osuna should be put in a position to start next year. An arm like that should not be wasted in the bullpen.

What he's done so far is great. He needs to build up durability. 25-30% increases are fairly normal. he's on a pace to double his most innings ever before sept. I'd hate to ruin what is potentially a great asset going forward. that doesn't make sense.

We went into this season sans Stro with a questionable pen. I never considered Osuna would ever play such a key role but he is now our most dependable arm. No disrespect to Delabar, Bo, Loup, Hendricks and others who have done a pretty good job overall.

No disrespect to Delabar, Bo, Loup, Hendricks and others who have done a pretty good job overall. he might be too good for his own good? AA got caught with his pants down... again. We came into the year with NO depth in the pen or the rotation. He took a flyer on a lot of unproven players and no back up plans. If it's money, then the Miami and Mets trades make no sense whatsoever. Why you take on that much salary with so many holes still there and no money left is beyond me. Osuna is a lot better than anyone expected. Norris, Sanchez, Castro, Pompey... not so much. 20% success on that kind of bet is actually better than you'd expect. just think how bad things could be if Osuna wasn't as good as he has been.

Horses Fart Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 We were up 6-4 at one point?? What happened to the lead??
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 We were up 6-4 at one point?? What happened to the lead?? White Sox got a lot of cheap hits and also benefitted from Colabelo's poor fielding.
nextyear Verified Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 This game was fun to watch except for the final home run. Jose Reyes can't be blamed for this loss, however, I think his overall performance would be much better if he played 5 days a week maximum. Unfortunately, Gibbons and AA are betting the farm on their confidence that he will lead the team to a good record. Either the Blue Jays will keep going down in win loss record or Jose Reyes will go on the injured list again because of lack of rest. In games in which Goins was in the starting lineup this year, the Blue Jays are a few games over .500. This indicates that Reyes can be rested a couple of times a week without hurting the ball club. On the other hand, Devon Travis needs to be played as much as possible, he is excellent offensively and at least average defensively (maybe even better than average).

I don't have a huge problem with giving Reyes a bit more rest but not because "the Jays are a few games over .500" when Goins starts. If we used that logic, then Travis should be on the bench full time since the team is about 10 games below .500 in the games he's started.

If this game was fun to watch you must be pretty easy to please. 4hrs is far too long for a ball game. Also what happened to batters having to stay in the box? Colabello takes a ball and goes for a 5 min stroll every pitch. Sorry I'm bitter, I hate losing games we should win, its becoming a trend.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Colabello should absolutely never play the outfield. But he will my lad. He will until his average is down to .250 and perhaps even then as Gibby calls him clutch
LTR Verified Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Colabello should absolutely never play the outfield. It's frustrating as f***. How many games has he cost us? 2-3 at least.
