Hey folks, long time lurker first time poster. Originally from Halifax, moved to Edmonton last year. Making the road trip down to Seattle for the July 24-26 weekend. Anyone able to recommend any affordable hotels near Safeco? Been checking out the travel sites but hard to determine what's close to the field and what's not.

While I'm driving down, we'd like to leave the car at the hotel and cab it to the stadium.

The Edgewater is only a 30 minute walk from Safeco.

Should be fun...it will be more than half full of playoff starved Canadians.

In Calgary, but haven't made the Seattle trip yet so cant help you. Usually go to TOR but this year went to HOU and going to Anaheim in Aug to watch the Jays.

I'll be in Anaheim when the Jays are in town as well. Likely hitting up the Saturday night game. Seeing the Padres/Cards on the Friday night.

Haha going to any other ballparks when in California?

Taking in the Fri, Sat and Sun series against the Angels with my girlfriend. Sitting a few rows back in Jays dugout section. Back to Cal Mon. My 50th Bday trip. Where did the time go?

Cant go this year but I've been to Jays games in Seattle many times. Your best bet is to check out the two hostels in the area. But they are probably booked.

Hotels arent cheap in Seattle. If you want to enjoy the night life I recommend getting a hotel downtown not where the stadiums are. The stadiums are in an area called "SODO" which stands for south of downtown. There are only a dozen or so pubs and restaurants close to Safeco.

Cabs are pretty cheap in Seattle too.

I agree with this, I've been to Seattle many times and lived there for a year. If I stay downtown I stay in the Belltown area near the space needle. Great restaurants and bars. Still expensive though, it's hard to find anything downtown for less than $140 a night.

If you like good food, you'll love Seattle, some of my favorite places to eat in the world. If you like Mediterranean food, the best I've ever had was at Petra on 4th and Wall. There's also a great brazilian BBQ place called Grill from Ipanema at 1st and Bell. Closer to the park I highly recommend Pike's Brewery in the market. Best smoked Salmon I've ever had and it's not even close. Plus they make a fantastic tripel ale which at ~9% will prime you for the game real quick. Note: All the beer there is strong local micro brew, the usual 1 CDN to 3 US beer factor does not apply. You will get very drunk.

I could go on but I'm getting off topic on your hotels request. If anyone wants Seattle info feel free to PM me.

I'll be out for the weekend. Have gone to Seattle a multiple times, most any hotel in the Seattle greater downtown core (except if your on the north end over by Key Arena/Space needle) is walking distance to the stadium (15-20 mins). Even if you are over there, there is a monorail which you can jump on and will get you to the other end of downtown.

I've stayed on the outskirts of the city, but much prefer staying downtown and walking to Safeco, traffic can suck on game days, and parking downtown is pricey. I've found a few deals on 4+ star hotels on hotwire over the years, but looks like everything is jacked up right now.

So sad I can't go to this series!

A good hotel for value is The Moore, about 20 minute walk. Haven't been for a few years but used to make an annual trip and we stayed there for a good price.

Prepare to be raped on hotels if you're headed down for this series. I went last year and hotels were much much cheaper, not sure if it's because of a weekend series or not. We stayed at the Sheraton in Pike Place for about $180 something a night last year. I'm going to this series as well and had been looking at hotels for 6 months. I typically bid on priceline for 4 stars when I go to major cities but I couldn't get anything remotely close to price or quality of last year. The same class of hotels i booked last year was in the neighbourhood of $300 US + a night. We ended up booking the Residence Inn Lake Union ... all in on my visa it came to $740 CAD for 3 nights. This hotel is in the space needle area which is outside of the area of downtown covered by the Link light rail which brings you right to the stadium.
