GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 Pillar is too valuable as a vacuum to be replaced in CF. I want him on this team going forward, and let the Pompey/Revere situation sort itself out in LF. Maybe even ask Bautista to go to 1B. someone photoshop pls
ValiantJaysFan Verified Member Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 The only problem I have with Pillar is his massive ego and he plays selfishly. As long as he's not a disruption to the team I have no problem with us keeping him but it wouldn't break my heart to see someone else out there either.

I mean I understand in his rookie year with his tantrum, but he seems pretty humble now. And doesn't matter if he's selfish/ego. He got nothing on our bangers and he's not THAT important.

ValiantJaysFan Verified Member Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 Watch the guy...never runs out ground balls, makes selfish plays (could have been a total disaster yesterday), had the tantrum in his rookie year and just the way he carries himself. Seems like a dick to me.

Seems like a dick to me. I don't think it's an ego thing, he has high expectations of himself and a bit of a temper. Sometimes the emotions come out when he plays. Seems like a good teammate though.

You're gonna bitch about that, you're gonna have to bitch about Donaldson (and I have no problem with him not running out grounders, just look at E5 last year). Yesterday was a bad decision but I don't view it as a selfish.

I think Pillar is one of the easiest players to root for on the team (if not throughout MLB)...That man gets every ounce of talent he has out of that body.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 Question - do the Jays have the best defense in baseball right now (especially with Goins at 2nd with Travis out). Revere, Pillar, Jose JD, Tulo, Goins, Smoak, Martin Jose's the only below average defender. I have to say it's pretty amazing watching this team catch the ball lately.

I'd consider Revere to be below average. No amount of range can overcome the worst arm in the league.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 lol at those comments about Pillar not running out groundballs. The guy has made some of the best catches you will ever see late in the game in 5+run games where he easily could of let up.

I was thinking this the other day. I'm inclined to say yes. Its definitely the best infield in the game balance wise. Heck, when Buehrle and Dickey are on the mound the defense really is amazing everywhere on the diamond.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 I'd consider Revere to be below average. No amount of range can overcome the worst arm in the league. Yeah Revere is good for now but ideally Pompey steals his job and he gets demoted to 4th OF next year. No way should he be one of the guys pushing Bautista to 1B. He'd be fine as a 4th OF, pinch runner. Best guy for that role since Rajai.

A Pompey-Pillar-Saunders (Revere 4th OF'er) outfield would be ridiculous defensively and decent enough offensively.

Holy f***, I forgot that he even exists. I guess the outfield could get crowded when he comes back but I don't know if I want to count that chicken until it hatches.
ValiantJaysFan Verified Member Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 http://m.mlb.com/video/?content_id=34333115&c_id=mlb Pillar isn't Edwin, is he? Can't really compare the two. Pillar still has a lot to prove, Edwin is a proven slugger. Pillar is the type of player that needs to go hard on every play and put pressure on the defence and hope to beat one out or force and error from time to time. Edwin is the type of player that smashes the ball off the windows.
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 Who's going to the game tonight!? Already conceding any productivity that would've happened today.

It'll be nice to have Revere behind him on the depth chart, If Jose is shifted to 1B that'd be another layer of depth. Makes me think Edwin has to be moved this off-season.

A coworker of mine is going to the party suites that cost $150 per person. I'm going to the game tomorrow. Glad I bought those tickets with my flex pack. Face value of $66 or so are going now for $250-$420.

GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 Are they actually being sold for that amount or are they just being listed on StubHub like that? When you're selling, there's an option to filer based on what active listings are and what's actually sold, just a heads up for anyone selling

I'm considering just getting lots of tickets for a bunch of games down the stretch, if I can't make it they'll be easy to sell or give away. Time's running out though.

Another option might be to not offer arb to Revere and spend his salary somewhere else. Some sort of Pompey/Pillar/Saunders time share could work out well if Saunders is actually healthy and productive.
