NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 I would try to poach Steve Cishek from the Marlins for nothing.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 I would try to poach Steve Cishek from the Marlins for nothing. One of the best ideas on the thread...and it would draw so much hatred from the casuals. So much so that if he continued to give up runs anywhere near his current pace it would actually be AA's likely demise. A better thread might be to look at the most likely relievers to be moved: Papelbon (13M this year, $13M vesting option that is going to be close to the number) Clippard (free agent next year, guaranteed to get traded, likely for less than what Oakland gave up to get him). Cishek (got $6.5M in his second of four arbitration years) Francisco Rodriguez ($7.5M next year) Teams usually don't give free agents multi year deals and then trade them the same year, but he is getting a solid raise next year and he has a lot of value right now. A smart GM would move him. Chapman (one more arbitration year, likely will get $10M) John Axford (One more arbitration year, likely won't get over $4M) Those are the guys that are probably top candidates to get moved. Really not sure what the asking prices for each will be but relievers always seem to go for much less in the off-season in comparison to trade deadline.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 We have a lot of problems with this team/organization and Brett Cecil is not one of them
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 what could we get for BTS, Hurl and Scientificreason? I'd trade them...
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 I'd prefer turning Edwin into some assets, preferably an outfielder who can play defence above a little league level, and if we can get a closer thrown in then sure lets do that to. Preferably, 3 way where we get Gomez and trade EE to another contender. EE needs to get some DH time to increase his value. His bad has suffered form too much time at first. At least I hope that's why he has been so bad.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 Henderson and Cishek are guys with good skills who will cost nothing.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 Henderson and Cishek are guys with good skills who will cost nothing. I doubt the Marlins are going to give Cishek away. The guy was dominant the last 2 years.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 I doubt the Marlins are going to give Cishek away. The guy was dominant the last 2 years. 6.5m in arbitration this year. Pretty much makes him a free agent at the end of this season as not a lot of teams will go back to arbitration with him at that price.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 did you watch him pitch the last half of 2014? He sucked why would you focus on such a small sample size? Go get Soriano

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 We should fire AA immediately if he gives up any of those assets - unless the return is Chapman - or some elite like that (Wade Davis?). I swore I read this past offseason how upset people were when AA gave up Snider and Thames for bullpen arms and how stupid that strategy was... We should try and pry an arm away from the Royals. Davis, Hochevar, Madson......not sure I'd touch Holland or Herrera.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 Wat??? Go read through the history...it happened.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 Nothing Team is at least 2 starters and 2 relievers away from contending for a playoff spot
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 Go read through the history...it happened. Snider 1.5 WAR since trade. Lincoln -.4 WAR and no longer in MLB
Mikeleelop Verified Member Posted June 3, 2015 Author Posted June 3, 2015 Snider 1.5 WAR since trade. Lincoln -.4 WAR and no longer in MLB but I think the delebar for thames works out similarly in the Jays favour. Trades were prob a wash. two journeyman OF for two journeyman relievers

At least I hope that's why he has been so bad. Edwins issue is what plagued him before he became E-Rex midway through 2011. He he swinging at balls away off the plate much more so his K rate is a lot higher. I also think his legs and back are not quite right. Maybe its affecting him at plate as well. Its a bit disturbing at his age if playing 1st is that hard on him. Shouldn't be. They are going to keep going out there off the plate until he lays off again. The guy has the potential in one month to put up crooked numbers and bring all his stats up to norm while carrying the offense. Lets hope he gets going.
