No you didn't. You posted a leaderboard that showed that some pitchers who are having great 2015s are generating good soft%'s. This is where Olerud's correlation-causation thing comes in. Pitchers are having good years because they are generating soft contact. That they are great is not the driver of both soft% and overall production.

That wasn't the point at all. The point was not that they are having good years but that the list is obviously comprised of good pitchers (I purposely did not provide any other data other than pitcher name and soft%). Did you know one of the first signs of intelligence in humans (the genus of hominids) was the ability to distinguish patterns? I'm really sorry though, as it seems this particular genetic trait has skipped your lineage all together.

Of course BABIP and soft% are related. Pitchers have almost no control over BABIP because they can't control their quality of contact.

No, I said soft% is not related to BABIP because it has nothing to do with whether the ball is in play or not. Saying a pitcher can't control quality of contact is like saying a pitcher can't control his SwStr%, it's the same thing... whether you miss a bat totally or by a little, it's the same deal.

It isn't obviously comprised of good pitchers though. You will need to be much more rigorous to disprove DIPS than by just saying a bunch of names around the top of a leaderboard are good pitchers.

Of course soft% has to do with whether the ball is in play lol. You can't get soft contact unless the ball is put in play.

It's obvious.

And I'm saying the soft% stat itself is not related to BABIP, as I already said soft% is comprised of hits and non-hits (BABIP measures hits on balls in play, in case you didn't know)... whether a player gets a hit on a ball in play or not does not affect soft%, how many more ways can I explain this... lol x infinity.

It isn't obvious and the burden of proof is on you.

Whether a player makes soft contact affects BABIP.

No, actually the burden of proof is on you. I already provided sufficient evidence. You're the one who made the original point and you have provided nothing.

Too bad there is no game thread for today's game. Dickey just pitched to Bryce Harper with a base open (runners on 2nd/3rd) and 1 out. Why set up a DP when you can have RA s***** pitch to the best hitter in the world?

Yeah... kind of sucks that there is no game thread. With me and Moogie talkin so much foolishness back and forth the regulars got pissed and started another new board.. don't know where. You should try find out but it's kind of a secret cause they want to keep the foolishness away.

Anyway fire Gibby!!!!
