BTS Community Moderator Posted May 23, 2015 Posted May 23, 2015 Why is this guy starting against Felix Hernandez? Why is he starting against righties at all? Career 61 wRC+ against RHP in the majors, and in the minors his OPS was 150 points worse against them. If he's a major league player, it's as the short-side of a CF platoon. Christ almighty this org is awful.

BTS Community Moderator Posted May 23, 2015 Author Posted May 23, 2015 What do you suggest? Anything. Pompey up. A left-handed corner OF off the replacement-level scrap heap so Carrera can play CF against righties. Pillar can not be continually run out there as an every day player.
JohnnyLonghorn Verified Member Posted May 23, 2015 Posted May 23, 2015 What do you suggest? Try to bring Gose back? Travis was a nice plug in at 2b but left a huge hole in CF. Banking on Pompey after such a short minor league stint was risky to say the least.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2015 Posted May 23, 2015 Pillar is a great weapon in the right hands. The Jays are using him improperly.

Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted May 23, 2015 Posted May 23, 2015 i'd take ben revere off the phillies hands, maybe even see how much the dodgers will pay down ethiers contract. They need some major league outfielders badly.
BTS Community Moderator Posted May 23, 2015 Author Posted May 23, 2015 The team should have been all over David DeJesus before the season when the Rays were apparently shopping him for nothing but salary relief, and the Jays knew Saunders was hurt. Guy crushes RH pitching, and is still a plus corner defender. He's exactly what the team needs. I wonder if they'd still move him?

Pillar can not be continually run out there as an every day player. usually the easiest thing a player does is pick the ball up when it stops rolling. Carrera has managed to f*** this task up more than once. He's a putz and I don't want him playing anywhere let alone CF. I'm not sure who's wife/daughter Pompey f***ed to go from everyday starting CF to a guy who isn't called up when we don't have a single healthy MLB replacement level OFer, but someone needs to get the f*** over it and bring him back up. Pillar is a very good defensive player, but is a whack a mole moron offensively and is killing our lineup. The sick part is that IF they call up Pompey Pillar would probably still be either in LF or CF.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted May 23, 2015 Posted May 23, 2015 Are you aware that Pillar was hitting very well for the first couple weeks of the season? it's his attitude that's getting him into trouble. He got sent down last year for being a prick that over valued his own talent. He still hasn't learned and doesn't understand his role in the lineup. His job is to not get himself out, but he's hacking blindly and has zero plan in his AB

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that he's OPS'ing .500 with one XBH in 73 PA.... in Triple-A? Pillar is a very good defensive player, but is a whack a mole moron offensively and is killing our lineup. The sick part is that IF they call up Pompey Pillar would probably still be either in LF or CF. Again, Pompey is not showing any reason to be called up. There's no good option here.

Smoak at first and Ed to DH. that would be 1 s***** bat in the lineup. You can live with one bad bat, but not 3-4

Anything has to be better than playing Pillar on a regular basis or Carrera anytime.I've watched Pompey in Buffalo and am a big fan, but he has looked awful. Hope he gets his confidence back.
JohnnyLonghorn Verified Member Posted May 23, 2015 Posted May 23, 2015 Im not a huge Pillar fant. But this team is stuck with him because sadly hes our best option in CF. Pompey has no business being anywhere near a major league lineup right now, and it was certainly a gigantic risk giving him the starting job to begin with. Im a huge fan of Devon Travis but you have to wonder if it was a smart choice letting Gose go with Pompey still being a very raw prospect and DJ Davis still likely a couple years away.

There's a very good chance DJ Davis never even makes it to the major leagues, let alone play everyday.

I guess that goes to show the kind of confidence management had in Pompey. Yet they werent confident enough in him to let him stay up here after a month of sub par baseball.

Baseball players are not f***ing evaluated over single sessions and small samples. Really dumb organization.
JohnnyLonghorn Verified Member Posted May 23, 2015 Posted May 23, 2015 I would have personally preferred that Pompey had at least a full season in triple A under his belt before bringing him up here. But if they let Rasmus walk and shipped Gose out of town you would have thought they were gonna ride this kid to the finish line. Perplexing that they gave him such a short leash.
BTS Community Moderator Posted May 23, 2015 Author Posted May 23, 2015 (edited) Its those spectacular catches he made back in April which will likely buy him everyday AB's until the ASG. Yeah. The real issue here is going into the season with one major league outfielder. Saunders was hurt in February. They had 5 weeks to find a solution, and as usual, were completely ineffective. Even before the Saunders injury the board was complaining that this OF was paper thin and were an injury away from being a complete clusterf***. Edited May 23, 2015 by BTS

This team has been awful when it comes to adding decent inexpensive FA players or pitchers for depth/insurance purposes in areas of weakness. Its frustrating.

What do you suggest? Setting yourself up with better depth in the off-season. Having a lefty and righty utility guy that can play up the middle.

You're clearly underestimating AA's incompetence... "The big thing is Pillar has just been so good," said GM Alex Anthopoulos. "(Mark) Buehrle joked that we should give him the Gold Glove right now and Pillar has always been a good defender but watching him night in and night out, if you have someone that gifted defensively, centre is the ideal spot for him. It’s a way as much to maximize Pillar’s defensive value more than anything else. We knew he was good defensively but he’s playing unbelievably right now. For me from what we’ve seen, he’s one of the best defensive outfielders in the game right now." Pillar is here to stay!
