TilsonBritoFan Verified Member Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 With things going so poorly right now for our BJ's its only a matter of time before reporters start asking questions about clubhouse chemistry. And I'm sure there are a lot of players not happy in the clubhouse right now. In the past our losing (such as last year specifically, leading us to bring in "clubhouse leaders" like Martin) has been attributed to poor clubhouse chemistry. I think its the other way around - losing is what leads to the bad clubhouse chemistry. Example: many of us thought Colby Rasmus was a problem in the clubhouse last year. He may have been - he seems to be a real weirdo, but he's still the same Cletus in the Astros clubhouse and they don't seem to have any issues right now. We may not have a room where everyone gets along. But neither does any other team in MLB. Every other team has latin players and their cliques, country whiteboys, etc. The thing is, when you are winning then none of that matters, everyone seems to get along, and reporters aren't asking dumb questions about clubhouse chemistry. When you are winning that weirdo Rasmus is hilarious because he's an oddball. When you are losing you can't stand being in a losing environment, especially with weirdo's like Rasmus. Cure the losing on this team, and you cure the clubhouse issues. Our losing will be is cured by pitching, not by curing clubhouse "issues" like we tried to do this offseason. In short - while getting Donaldson and Martin were great baseball moves, getting rid of Lind for Estrada because of "clubhouse" issues, was stupid. All of our decisions should be based on talent and talent alone. Win, and the chemistry will come.
Jonzo Verified Member Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 Agreed, it's just a bunch of excuses, ********. Mostly made up by members of the media trying to create a story. As you said, every team in the league deals with personality issues.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 Wait until rasmus slumps and the Astros slump. You'll start hearing the ********. The only good clubhouse chemistry there is, winning. Win a lot and everyone will play along. Start losing and issues arise. Don't let the media ******** you into thinking character matters in sports. It doesn't.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 Not true! No team wins as individuals no matter the Talent, You can have the Best of the Best on your team and still not win or win it all. Unless as a team you buy into the program or game plans as a team, you will fail ! Individual do not win, great teams do! Proven and Fact!
Jonzo Verified Member Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 The only "chemistry" I'd buy into is that between a catcher and a pitcher.

Baseball is a game of 1 v 1 matchups. The "buying in as a team" matters in the sense that guys have to be willing to sacrifice stats sometimes for the sake of the team, but in general, I'd take a team full of all stars who hate each other over a bunch of average players who are best friends.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 Not gonna win that way, sorry! Individuals who hate each other will and can't win it all! The soul of the individual plays for himself, caring for his own self and glory not that of the team! Non team players do not play or risk it all for the team. Selfish play for personal gains not a winning formula for success!

Thank you. Chemistry is number 10 of things to worry about when building a team. Talent is KING
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 Fact is the team is underperforming and the team was constructed poorly (especially the bullpen) clubhouse chemistry can't fix that.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 Actually clubhouse chemistry can maybe not fix but help that, pointing fingers and calling each other out can rip a team apart... United we stand,Divided we fall !
Top 10 Personal Catcher Verified Member Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 You would be hard pressed to find a player in the MLB who would not do whatever it takes to win, regardless of his personal feelings about his teammates. The only situation I can think of where a player's personality might negatively affect the team, is if the personality of the player is toxic to the point of being extreme. For example, a complete nutcase who goes out of his way to make life miserable for his teammates. Other than that, ******* or not, players want to win and they will put their personal feelings aside in order to do so.

Nice believe but not true, how many times watching the bluejays have you said, run it out at least, hustle dive just once, bunt here, just get a hit we don't need a hero or a home run here! Those do not equal a great team if said enough times during a season! That's what individuals do

North of 60 Verified Member Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 Chemistry in baseball is pretty irrelevant, the only real chemistry that exists is between the catcher and pitcher. This isn't like Hockey, Soccer, or Basketball where chemistry is important.

Jose Canseco was/is a roided out weirdo who eventually chopped off his own finger. Dennis Eckersley was a recovering alcoholic. Ricky Henderson is by all accounts one of a kind.... Dave Stewart once got arrested (I believe) for soliciting a she-male prostitute. However they won anyway. I don't know. It was a long time ago. Maybe the rest of the team were incredible leaders and made up for the strangess of some of the key players. I am sure Rasmus could be a key part of any world series winner if he hit .270 with 35 homers and his teammates play well... not so much if he hits .200 with 19 homers and everyone else s*** it too.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 These are the 1989 Oakland Athletics I am talking about. The had lots of weirdos who played for themselves... but won anyway...
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 Mods lock this thread down... f*** you suck my cock just proved chemistry is a thing! yeah!
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 Mods lock this thread down... f*** you suck my cock just proved chemistry is a thing! yeah! No Bouncey you do not understand the statistics. I do. I've been here before. Last year I thought 'calm down' was the key. It made so much sense. A calm bunch of players and fans would feed off each other, calmness would lead to concentration, concentration would lead to clutch performance, clutch performance would lead to winning. We were so calm we almost s*** our selves... in a calm way. But in the end it did not help. I doubt 'f*** you suck my cock' will work either. Nox explained it... it is all just Bayesian priors and s***. Once you adjust for covariance of the other parameters 'f*** you suck my cock' is just another bit of noise.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 How about f*** you, Suck my Cock, we got this s***! Better? Lol
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 How about f*** you, Suck my Cock, we got this s***! Better? Lol I just cannot get invested in this foolishness again this year. Whether we keep calm, or tell people to go f*** and suck themselves it will not matter.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 Ride it out buddy... If it works, just win Baby... Just win!
