Jays:


  • Sanchez possesses overpowering stuff, but his lack of command has been a major issue as a starter. In his last outing against Baltimore, Sanchez earned the win despite issuing seven walks over 5 1/3 innings. Most of his problems have been related to fastball command, but he's also experienced difficulty throwing his curveball for strikes.

 

Red Sox:

  • Kelly began the season on a high note with an impressive seven-inning victory over the Yankees, but since then, he has yet to make it out of the sixth. During his last outing, Kelly took the loss after allowing five earned runs over five innings to the Rays. All of his starts this season have come against AL East opponents.

What's going on with Joe Kelly? He's always been a GB machine with below average K/BB skills, and so far this year he's a fly ball pitcher with elite K/BB skills.

Started throwing high fastballs more. Getting SwStr on them.

 

Makes sense. Took a quick look at FG and saw his fastball has been good for him. Guy throws 95-96, there's no reason not to throw it up with some regularity.

Some guys have great success with the "rising" fastball.

Red Sox lead baseball in walks and Sanchez is a walk machine... recipe for disaster.

 

Only if the Red Sox actually hit.. they're 11th in the AL in average, with several notable low averages in Betts, Ortiz, Napoli, among others. And Bogaerts is hitting .129 in his last 10 games.
