o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 Before tonight's game Miguel Castro 1.93 ERA > You were being deceived 4.70 xFIP > Let reality set in -0.2 WAR > Ouch 8.87 K/9 3.88 BB/9 Compare to Rays Substitute Closer Brad Boxberger 2.45 ERA 2.28 xFIP 0.4 WAR 14.73 K/9 3.68 BB/9 there you go confusing the conversation with facts again.... the nerve. lol
LTR Verified Member Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 Yeah Norris was great. Even the 1 run he gave up was due to a walk that should have been a K, and a bloop double f***ing home plate umps make my blood boil. If the catcher doesn't catch it cleanly they just derp out.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 f***ing home plate umps make my blood boil. If the catcher doesn't catch it cleanly they just derp out. at least it was going both ways today. edit: that's what she said
LTR Verified Member Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 at least it was going both ways today. edit: that's what she said Also Russell's framing has been trash... well he's been dead even... 0 extra strikes in 901 chances. I'm sure he'll come around but he hasn't looked good in that area so far. But it stands out more after watching Rene Rivera who's just sensational at framing.

LTR Verified Member Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 at least he's throwing out runners. I'm hoping it's a learning curve kind of thing. Yeah. I'm not complaining though, after the rough start he's been great at everything else.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 I'm not complaining though, after the rough start he's been great at everything else. can you imagine the pressure he's under? I dont care how cool you are, if you get a huge contract to basically play for all of Canada, as a Canadian, it's gotta be something to adjust to.

I dont care how cool you are, if you get a huge contract to basically play for all of Canada, as a Canadian, it's gotta be something to adjust to. I imagine having to learn all these new pitchers is pressure enough. That's what I'm mostly attributing the rough start to. I also think it's possible catching Dickey is/was throwing his framing off (lingering effects).

Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 Still shaking at removing both Osuna and Cecil, sometimes trusting good pitchers means sitting on your hands
MatBarnes Verified Member Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 Is Saunders a below average OF? He looked slow and lethargic out there...
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 Is Saunders a below average OF? He looked slow and lethargic out there... first game back at the trop can't be easy. He Probably hasn't played there many times with the Ms. He wouldn't be the first guy to miss read a ball there.
BTS Community Moderator Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 Is Saunders a below average OF? He looked slow and lethargic out there... Bad CF, but probably above average on the corners.
MatBarnes Verified Member Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 Bad CF, but probably above average on the corners. Well he get less slow and lethargic looking in time?
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 I'm not saying Travis doesn't do those things. I love him I'm saying that when he slumps (stops doing those things) you will jump all over him. you're comparing apples and wildebeest.... you can eat both, but the wildebeest needs some time in the over before it's ready.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 Seriously?? This place is so hot and cold you know if he slumps people will call for his demotion. Thats how things are around here. Overreaction runs rampant. you're over reacting lol
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 You guys are missing my point completely. I don't doubt Travis one bit. Im a huge fan. But there are a bunch of people here who will jump all over him at the first sign of trouble. You'll see. no, you're saying that because people are saying that one player is not ready, (he's not) that people will say another player isn't ready (he is) if he struggles. you're confusing readiness with inability. Travis is ready, Castro has the ability, but is not ready. no one is saying that Castro doesn't have ability. Quite the contrary. Most are saying that Castro can be great not that he wont.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 And if Travis was slumping right now he'd be a wildebeest in your eyes. Its all about who's hot with you guys. Get it? Now I'm really done. Good night all. Cute that you think Travis is Hot. Travis is not just a player who is on a hot streak. , he is doing everything correctly. he is defending well and hitting well while showing that he has a solid grasp on why it is going well. Castro knows he can pitch, but has no idea what he needs to do to becomes the star most of us think he can be. and that son is the difference.

Castro isn't ready for a big time bullpen role, but I think he could be really good in mid relief type roles. If that's the case though might as well let him start in the minors.

Of course Travis will slump, but he is a college draftee who played a full season at each A+ and AA whereas Castro has only pitched 31.1 innings above short-season ball. Anyway, we'll have to wait and see.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 You people don't know how much it pains me that I had to miss this one. BTS I was asked a question yesterday, and I want to ask my fellow Rays'r the same question. Would you be satisfied with the Rays season if they missed the playoffs...but dominated the Jays so badly that it cost the Jays from making the playoffs? My answer was yes that would be a satisfying season for me. I'll enjoy the playoffs whether the Rays are there or not.
