jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 Why you don't lock pitchers up long term. Romero was once a 6.3 WAR, ace of our staff and our all-star game rep. 6.3 bWAR*. 3.8 fWAR with a 3.64 xFIP. Contract was fine but no one ever should have thought he was elite. Most people knew he would regress just not to the point where he was s***.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 Morons like you are brave behind a keyboard. Seen lots of pukes like you on my job. Little cowards. s*** for brains. How do you know he's hiding behind a keyboard? He could have typed it on his phone. You know nothing.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 If Stroman got a 6 year $50 million contract right now I bet you'd call it a steal. And if Stroman comes down with 2 Tommy Johns in 2016/2017 and becomes Kyle Drabek I bet you'd call it one of the worst contracts in Blue Jays history as well. 6 years $50M for Stroman would be a pretty bad contract. Considering David Price who was a Super 2 and had a pretty incredible run in arbitration only cost $54M. Stroman would likely have to be in the Cy consideration for most of his next 6 years to earn $50M through arbitration.

NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 Romero was very good when he signed the contract. He was basically who Sonny Gray is now. A durable young ground-baller with decent K:BB numbers and a history of above-average performance. If the A's locked up Gray to the 2015 equivalent of Romero's extension people would say it's a very smart move. It probably would be. Romero's downfall could not have been predicted.

Just pick any comparative contract that would, say, buy out 2 FA years. My point is, we could make a great signing or trade that EVERYONE loves now and it could very quickly turn out to be a dud. But I'm not 2nd guesser - I judge moves based on the NOW. For example, everyone here loves the Donaldson acquisition. Would you suddenly hate it if Donaldson ended up getting suspended for PEDs and ends up being his AAAA self? That's not fair.
polar bear Verified Member Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 his super hot girlfriend dumped him, he forgot how to pitch, got fired and he was having pancakes every morning with JPA.... poor guy can't a break. Now he only has Kara Lang to fall back on,or should I say fall forward on,I hear she's pregnant.
