gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 f*** me that Donaldson shot was a bomb! Loved the swing. I still can't get over this trade. AA f***ing raped Beane, unless Barretto turns into Roberto Alomar. Lawrie is destined to be batting 7th or 8th in the NL. I like our chances.

Beane doesn't see it like that, Donaldson is getting expensive fast and Lawrie if many things fall into place isn't such a bad cheap replacement. On top of that he got 3 more potential players, 2 of them could have an impact this year. Obviously Donaldson gives you the better value by far but when you can't afford to keep your players, you gotta try to get the best package for them. What i do wonder though, would Beane be able to get a better package if he tested the waters with other teams?

If the A's can't afford a star player during their arb years, then they have bigger problems. I think there was a lot more to this than what is publicly known.

Beane got 1 established 23/24 year old MLBer, 2 MLB-ready SP + a top-ranked middle IF prospect who has done nothing but rake at a very young age. I like the trade for the Jays, but they gave up valuable pieces.
