They can't until midseason now.

I could see Anderson accepting a trade to Toronto. He seems like a pretty smart guy and would know the benefits RC provides his pitching style. I think he's friends with JD too so JD could convince him to come over.

Why would they trade him?

Free up the salary to spend elsewhere. I don't expect them to trade him, just wishful thinking as I really think he would be a good fit in Toronto.

Especially on his current contract. 1 year is exactly what you want to commit to Brett Anderson. I suspect LA is thrilled to have him as 5th starter.

The Dodgers have unlimited funds. They don't care that they're spending $16M on Anderson for one year.

Not unlimited funds. The payroll is going to go down from last year.. but they should still be around the $220-240M level. Remember, they're getting up there in the repeater tax. Plus, they need a 2B as well. Also, the ownership has been aiming to reduce payroll anyway.. that $280M+ last year was an outlier. Their aim is to reduce it closer to the $200M level.

Dodgers will have one of if not the best rotations if they bring back Greinke. Top end starters +great depth to cover the injury prone guys

Kershaw

Greinke

Wood

Ryu

Anderson

Bolsinger

McCarthy

Urias

Ryu and McCarthy are still question marks post-injury. And Urias won't reach the majors until late 2016 at best, if not 2017. And even with those arms, they need a decent bullpen.. that has been the weakness for the Dodgers in recent years which has cost them in the postseason.

#Phillies sending the #DBacks a RHP in the trade, per league source.

Sam McWilliams ( http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=sa829124&position=P ) for Jeremy Hellickson

Robert Murray? Come on King. Wasn't he one of the twitter kiddies from last offseason?

Yeah. He's sort of trying to be legit like Cotillo though. Not exactly sure if he actually has any sources or if he just rides various twitter waves by saying "source: this happened" exactly five seconds after someone else reports it.

He didn't break this story, a Philly reporter did.

Yeah, I noticed he tweeted 6 minutes after the Philly guy.

Was Cotillo the first to break them Oriole QO stories? MLB Network used him as the primary guy, lol. IDK?

Cotillo is basically a reporter now. If you're wonder if you should believe the words that are coming out of his mouth, he's probably as reputable as, say, JP Morosi.

Free agent infielder Cliff Pennington, who played down the stretch with the Blue Jays, is close to signing, ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick tweets. He’s considering one- and two-year deals. SB Nation’s Chris Cotillo tweets Pennington is choosing from among three teams. The 31-year-old Pennington hit just .210/.298/.281 in 2015. Given his solid defense and versatility (he can play shortstop, second base, third base and outfield and even pitch if needed), Pennington does have value, but it would be mildly surprising, in my opinion, if he wound up with a two-year deal following a down season.

I find the whole baseball news reporting thing pretty silly. These people don't actually add any utility. The fan experience would be unchanged if the teams were the first source of moves and there would be a lot less misinformation flying around.

One of my favourite things about the offseason and the trade deadline is seeing reporters "confirm" things that teams have already announced, or being the 10th guy to "confirm" a trade.

I always wonder how some of these people get their sources. Blackmail?

It seems like Salisbury broke the story that something was close and then Murray wants credit for being the first to say it was done. As you note, it would be very easy to just report "close" stuff as done and try to take credit. If it falls apart, blame your anonymous source.

What a little dipshit.

Looking up people they went to high school with on LinkedIn and spamming until they get a hit
