KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 This is amazing lmao I listened to a great interview with Val Pompey from some blog one time. The Pompeys seem like really great, very supportive parents.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 Byung-Ho Park bidding. Jays still in the running (Indians, Tigers, Orioles, Padres, Rangers are out) SATURDAY: Neither the Indians nor the Tigers submitted the winning bid for Park, via MLB.com’s Jordan Bastian and MLive.com’s Chris Iott (on Twitter). The Indians did bid for Park, although their bid came up short; the Tigers did not bid for him. The Rangers are not the team either, via a tweet from MLB.com’s T.R. Sullivan. The Orioles, who looked like a potential fit for Park, were outbid and will not be signing him, Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun tweets. The Padres did not win the bidding either, according to Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune (on Twitter). Boston won the bet... 12M
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 Boston won the bet... 12M nope and I doubt they would with Hanley at 1B
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 I found this tweet amusing Wonder if any other blue jays players will go to him since his 2 biggest clients JD and Colla were on the team. Jays should just hire him lol.
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 Boston won the bet... 12M nope and I doubt they would with Hanley at 1B Suck eggs, you dirty foreigner! Jeff Passan @JeffPassan Taking it one step further: Source says Red Sox are not the team with winning Byung-Ho Park bid, plan to stick with Hanley Ramirez at 1B.
Sorrow Verified Member Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 On reddit someone looked into it and in 2015 Kevin Pillar batted .278. In the first half he hit .278, in the second half be hit .278, against righties and lefties he hit .278

Sorrow Verified Member Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 They said that on-air during the playoffs. I ended up muting the playoffs so I missed it, it improved my listening enjoyment.

Something something wanted to play for a better team but he had to play for his home club something something parents faked a divorce something something idk Hurl told me this story once
TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 oba? Ontario Baseball Association. The Pompey's threatened to sue over not allowing Dalton to move teams against residency rules. As per the Sportsnet special on them...they eventually faked separation and pretended his Mom lived in Mississauga.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 I mean... You can't say they aren't supportive.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 nope. Talk to those around the OBA. They are f***ing insane This is the case with a lot of big leaguers. Lawrie's dad was crazy, Stroman's dad was insane in not only being the crazy dad on the field but off the field too. Same thing with Tulo's dad..

That's why I found this tweet from Donaldson interesting: I'm probably reading too much into that but it at least makes you wonder about athletes and how they feel about such parents. And also those who had such an upbringing but maybe fizzled out in the minors.

There definitely seems to be a correlation. When the talent level is around equal the kids who work or (get worked) the hardest get them to the next level.

Oh yes, I had forgotten about Donaldson's father. But he at least seems to have some agreement with that mentality. Or just thinks it's an interesting debate.

All teams have some form of analytic team but not all use the data to make their decisions.

BTS Community Moderator Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 Jack Z Good call. Probably him.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 In the NL West, the Dodgers are analytics all the way. More than 40 of their scouts and baseball operations staffers have been fired. The Padres are continuing to figure out who they are, but they lean toward analytics, as do the Rockies. If those 2 orgs are analytic based explain the terrible trades they made and how bad they have been. https://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/2015/11/08/baseball-battle-between-scouting-and-analytics-continues/vplsMNmBXQuYrXfsxlwydM/story.html

Just look at this very message board, and how often a saber poster like BTS says something dumb cuz Fangraphs.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Terry Ryan is a good call. I'd say the guy is almost definitely in the Central.
