1.0+ IP, 7H, 6ER, 2BB, 1 HR, 0 K, ERA now up to 8.36.

 

That David Price is looking much better for the Jays than the Tigers.. though it's still possible Daniel Norris may pan out down the road. Boyd looks less so.. he has long-relief/mop-up man in his future if he doesn't improve his command and cut down the HRs.

 

Regardless of how those two do it was a fair price for a rental of Price's caliber.

 

Having said that it doesn't bother me when they don't perform well....helps with any sellers remorse!

Boyd is really having a tough time. His velo is at 91.5MPH so that isn't an issue either. I don't think he's this bad but we'll have to wait and see. I'm really rooting for Norris to do well in DET. He's one of my fav pitchers and seems like a really good person outside of baseball as well.

Well yeah he'll get votes for top 5 for sure. Meant will he get a lot of #1 votes. Right now he is probably #2/3 in voting if it were to take place today. Keuchel would win it fairly easily I would think.

I was just reading about Boras pushing the Mets to shut down Harvey at the "doctor recommended" 180 IP limit. Anybody else sick of this kind of thing? A team could go to the playoffs for the first time in years but would consider sitting one of their pitchers because he MIGHT get hurt again in the future. Sure, pitching 4 or 5 more games would increase the chance he got hurt, but pitching 5 games also gave him more chance to get hurt than pitching 0 games, so he should have just sat the whole season. I'm so tired of this kind of thing, these magical IP limits. It was so fitting Strasburg got hurt after they did "everything right." IF YOUR BEST PLAYERS ARE HEALTHY AND YOU ARE PLAYING FOR A PLAYOFF SPOT (or in the playoffs) THEN YOU DON'T END THEIR SEASON. I would have rested him mid season and then save his arm for down the stretch and into the postseason. Even limiting his innings per start (instead of going 7 or 8, make the max 6). Thing is once you're in the postseason, you may never have that type of opportunity again. I love the Mets moving forward, though I'm sure Washington makes some significant moves this offseason and improves. Sucks for fans, though I understand Harvey's situation as well. When $100 + million is at stake, there is no f***ing around.

Mets have such a filthy rotation going forward. We haven't seen a young group as good as their top-4 in long time. Hopefully next year they're all healthy.

The doctor's suggested limit is coming out of his ass. You think he really has information on how much more likely Harvey is to get injured if he throws a few more games over a 162 game period? His health should come before the team? The guy is NOT injured, nor is there any actually conclusive research that would show he is more likely to get injured beyond the reasonable assumption that any pitcher who pitches more is more likely to get injured. How many banged up players are playing right now but you need to shut down a pitcher who is healthy? Haven't you guys played baseball? Do you really, honestly believe that a couple games extra over a year, right before you are about to get a rest for a solid 4+ months has a significant chance of derailing his career? As for the money, you of all people should know how ridiculous some GMs are. I'd say financially there would be more to gain by pitching. Play well in a couple playoff games and all of a sudden Boras can tout you as a clutch performer with playoff success, a real winner. Way more likely that happens and gains him an extra 20 million that he faces some sort of injury. Zero reason to think his recently repaired elbow is just going to snap again. If anything he'd feel a bit of tightness and can be shut down and rested for the winter if it happens.

I'm not arrogant enough to think James Andrews is pulling recommendations out of his ass and I know better.

Why is he one of the best? Because we know he's one of the most famous? Miley Cyrus is a pretty popular singer but I wouldn't say she's one of the most talented. There are lots of GMs in baseball who made a name for themselves and are pretty dumb. Are the doctors recommended by the training staffs? The same ones working in a time where they have more information and resources than any generation before them, yet there are more injuries than ever. Seriously, there is an article out there somewhere that there were more pitcher surgeries in 2014 than in the whole 1990s, so why are people even listening to these doctors? The overuse is more likely coming from Dads or coaches at a young age telling kids to go out and throw 100 pitches a day because 10000 hours will get them to the pros, not because of a few extra games after an offseason.

If there was sound research that really clearly showed these recommendations were sound, we'd have it. Instead there is a lot of wishy washy articles and information out there. Starters are better conditioned than ever and throw less than any previous time in baseball but are getting hurt at exponentially greater numbers and people just go along with it. It's so dumbfounding.
