JaysFan4Ever Verified Member Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 Sorry if it's been posted. Seems like a slow day. I've just gotten online after shoveling snow all day. Probably nothing going to happen since they'd either send a crap pitcher in return especially for eating some of the salary. Maybe this is the desperate team that AA ninja skills can come to work with and net something useful. http://www.freep.com/story/sports/mlb/tigers/2015/02/09/detroit-tigers-dioner-navarro/23127467/
GD Old-Timey Member Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 Wilner says this never happened So this will be done shortly. Great.

BTS Community Moderator Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 I don't really see that as Smokey getting rekt, or even being wrong. Not seeing upside in Hutch beyond a 2-3 win 2/3 starter is a pretty valid stance.
JaysFan4Ever Verified Member Posted February 10, 2015 Author Posted February 10, 2015 I would rather keep him if its salary dump. They have s***** bullpen and I doubt they are ready to give up a useful piece. Free Agent market remains our best option. K-Rod is just sitting out there right now. Soriano would be a nice play as well. Both of them are not likely to recieve multi year offers. The Marlins have been talking to K-Rod I think we can out bid them. I'm with you on that one. If it's a straight dump, keep him, sign someone. If it's a trade either get someone useful back, even if it's a prospect, but something that can help the team. Navarro as a DH/Backup Catcher/PH is better than him playing elsewhere to save some money or getting s*** in return. I doubt Detroit will get desperate and give away too much along with taking on his full salary.
pat_borders Verified Member Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 When Navaro asked to be traded didn't AA promise he could get regular at bats between catching and DH? Smoak signed for nothing with us to and came out saying that he signed with TOR for less bc he was promised significant playing time.......AA's always tried to keep his word, both situations can't happen with both these guys on the team....I want to keep both, but Id rather have Navaro, seems like one must go
glory Old-Timey Member Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 AA gained a lot of faith by acquiring Martin, Donaldson, Saunders, and Travis, but the fact that he still has a $5M back-up catcher when he can't even afford to sign relievers to minor league deals is ridiculous. Trade Navarro for a 29-year old non-prospect in A-ball. Who cares. Spend the $5M elsewhere, like the pen or rotation.
Jonzo Verified Member Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 This is probably one of those ******** Stoeten type reports. I'm sure there are many teams that "discussed" Navarro. I'm guessing lots of these media guys will treat a simple phone call as a trade rumour..
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 I'd ask for Tyler Collins for starters, then maybe Angel Nesbitt or maybe Joe Jimenez. Think either would be fair! For Collins I might be willing to throw in a few bucks as well to make it happen!
glory Old-Timey Member Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 If Blair is the only one reporting it, then the sources that told him about it are likely the voices in his head. Toronto media doesn't scoop anyone. They just Retweet Rosenthal and others.

No way is a guy of his caliber going to be guaranteed any playing time. If he had a higher offer somewhere else he should have taken it. It seems strange that Navarro hasn't been traded by now. Either AA is really holding out for something good or he is in the plans for 2015. Knock on wood but if Martin gets injured that leaves Jimenez and Thole for C on top of the offensive question marks we see at 2B, CF and DH. Navarro as a backup catcher and DH for $5M really doesn't sound that bad. $2M less than Lind for a guy who you don't have to platoon and would make a decent contingency plan in case of injury.
