  1. 1. Howard?

    • No way, not worth a spot on 25 man roster at any price

    • Sure, as long as we pay him less than 2 mil per and costs no prospects

    • For around 5 mil per and no prospect why no!

    • I'd pay him 5-7 mil with no prospect trading hands?

Ryan Howard projects as a below average hitter and can never play the field... I don't see any appeal in him. If he were a free agent I'd consider a minor league deal.

Kenny Ken's article is rough to say the least. The mere fact that Howard hits home runs doesn't make him attractive... it's 2015 for goodness sake. Saying he's comparable to Butler and Morales is just wrong.

I agree, kennie messed up on this one. I'll be shocked if someone agrees to pay him 7 mil. I think I also want to change my vote, I'm liking the revolving DH idea like BTS said...I've been advocating that all winter and temporarily forgot my own advice :)

They'd get similar or better production from from the Dan Johnson types they keep Buffalo stocked with. There's no reason to seek Howard out especially. That's what being replacement level means.

Kenny Ken is getting defensive on Twitter now... pretty annoying. Sometimes the news-breaking types venture too far into speculation and blog-style writing.

Ryan Howard is only good in name. He's useless now.

It's practically the same thing as asking if we want Vernon Wells back or Frank Thomas.

I'd love to see him go to Seattle...the worst pull power hitter in baseball going to the most pull happy org in baseball. Seeing as RC has one of the best LF HR/FB ratios in baseball Howard is actually best fit for here (Howard's best fit is still bad). Many are happy to stick with Smoak who actually has been outhit by Howard though, so I think the better question is...would you take on Howard at 20 percent of his contract, if it came with Chase Utley?

I'd do that trade. It's huge upgrade at 2nd base and maybe you get some value out of Howard. If not, it's just the cost of acquiring one of the top 2B in the game. It would put the Jays over the top, IMHO (even if the bullpen needs work).

Well, if Navarro gets swapped, you never know how Howard could perform being JUST a full time DH, not playing the field. For 5m/yr and if it only took a B prospect or a guy that doesn't fit in our plans, I'd take the chance. We already have decent obp guys 1-5. I think Howard could improve on his hitting numbers DHing full time, imo. He's a beast.

Howard's offensive production last year in a bandbox was pathetic. I'd rather have Smoak, who cost nothing to acquire, than to use up Navarro who could bring better value to this club in some other way.

Definitely I make that deal. I think Howard as the full time DH (well, maybe ~450 AB's) might really do something. I wouldn't want him touching 1B. At the very least, he'd be a powerful presence as a PH off the bench with men on. Utley would be awesome, of course, but IIRC he has a full no-trade clause and has no intention of ever leaving Philadelphia.

If you were confident that Howard would hit RHP like he did prior to 2014 he'd be a solid platoon option. I guess that's a risk some team out there will take but I doubt it'll be the Jays.

I might take him if the price is amazingly cheap. He might be all right as a well used DH platoon, but I'm pretty sure an Edwin/Smoak/Valencia 1B-DH rotation is ultimately more valuable, without even looking at the numbers.

I'd rather have a Q of blow and a couple call girls... then Howard, but who wouldn't, lol.

I like your style, my spanking friend.

If we hadnt already committed a million to smoak then maybe, but the smoak/valencia platoon and depth is a much greater asset and for the price

Maybe if smoak shits the bed in april/may and howard is healthy and atleast productive vs righties the maybe

send the phillies aj jiminez or a couple lower ranked 20-30 prospects but they have to send 50 million with him, we pay the buyout in 2017

Reyes

Martin

Bautista

Encarnacion

Donaldson

Howard

Saunders

Travis

Pompey

Not sure if edwin at 1st for 100 games is good for his health, defence and his preference of dh

Now that I think of it, the Jays also picked up Daric Barton. I think a Smoak-Barton competition isn't markedly worse than the reasonable expectations from Howard. Any money allocated for Howard should be spent elsewhere, IMO. I wish I could change my vote.
