HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 He got it cause of Illitch (sp) Is there another owner willing to shell that much?
baseballsss Verified Member Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 If Lester goes to the Sox, Jays have a lineup that kills LHP. IT obviously makes the Sox better but JAys matchup well against him. Good pitching beats good hitting anyday. Don't get a head of yourself thinking were gunna dominate him.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Good pitching beats good hitting anyday. Don't get a head of yourself thinking were gunna dominate him. Not always the case....
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 10 mil after tax is 5 mil in your pocket Why didn't you say so? Now we know he's just stringing everyone along for a measly 5 million. I wipe my ass with that.

King Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Jeff Passan @JeffPassan 29s30 seconds ago The San Francisco Giants were willing to go seven years, somewhere in the neighborhood of $168 million for Jon Lester. He took less money.
SAAviour Verified Member Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 $25 mil+ annually for Lester. I guess scherzer gets 30 mil per...
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 No doubt in my mind that Scherzer will get 200 million
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 so in a span of one year, Red Sox's offer for Lester went from $70 mil/ 4 to $135 mill/6 and still didn't win the bid. Maybe they should have gave him a better extension offer last year and avoid all this drama Jeff Passan @JeffPassan 29s30 seconds ago The San Francisco Giants were willing to go seven years, somewhere in the neighborhood of $168 million for Jon Lester. He took less money. that 7th year with the Giants could have been a vesting option just like the deal he got. His current deal has a vesting option that would take the deal to 170 mil....which is absolutely ridiculous. Look at next year's free agent pitching market. What are the cubs doing?

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 A little weird that Lester is the one setting the market for free agent pitching. He's arguably the best know of the FA pitchers but you would think a smart team like the Cubs would look past that and focus on a superior pitcher like Scherzer. I wonder what they know that we don't know.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 A Bob Elliott piece from the Toronto Sun on Monday offered a rather interesting tidbit: “Earlier this off-season, the Jays talked trade with the Arizona Diamondbacks, asking about right-hander Wade Miley and outfielder Mark Trumbo. The Jays wanted Miley (8-12, 4.34 in 33 starts, 2011/3 innings) as an upgrade for their rotation. They wanted Trumbo (.235 average, 14 homers, 61 RBIs) to flip to Seattle to acquire Michael Saunders. Arizona wanted young pitching in return.”

Although he would be a solid 4-5 in the rotation, Durable and would be a upgrade to what we had last year.... Likely a 2-3 WAR type pitcher.

Steamer projects Wade Miley with a 2.3 WAR, compared to Mark Buehrle or R.A Dickey who project a 1.5 WAR. Also to note, Drew Hutchison is at 1.9 and Marcus Stroman 3.3
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 What would Romo cost? Roogy. Don't like him.
JaysRap Verified Member Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Luke Gregerson to the Astros for 3 years/$18.5M. That's just over 6/yr. That seems like a deal we could've had.
