Honestly I don't think they really need Shields. IF that money goes to the bullpen, 2nd base and more depth in the OF then I would be extremely happy.

Shields would be a great add to the rotation. I'd prefer to have Sanchez/Norris start in AAA as depth who, if dominating, can come into the bullpen in the 2nd half if they aren't already up as an injury replacement. Dickey/Stroman/Shields/MB/Hutch is the best rotation in the division.

 

I'm confident that AA will throw enough poo (waiver pickups, Delebar, etc.) at the bullpen that something will stick and be good enough.

Rickie Weeks could be worth a shot on the cheap.

 

I'd comfortably give him a few mill. Platoon him with Kawasaki and you might get a 2 win situation or something like that. Add in the insurance that Travis provides and you could maybe bump up the total 2B depth chart projection to ~3 wins.
