Funny how divisive Travis is in the prospect universe. Depending on whose report you read, he plays above/below average defense, he's an above/below average runner, he's an above/below average hitter.

Unless I'm mistaken (it's happened before), some of the best 2nd basemen in the game weren't highly ranked as prospects. I don't think Pedroia, Altuve or Utley were that highly ranked. I don't even think Kinsler, Cano or Dozier were top prospects.

As I said though, I've been wrong before...at least a couple of times.

Defense who knows. But every report I have seen and almost every stat suggests he can hit.

Why bother trying. He will block the trade.

True that. It does seem like every player that could block a trade to the Blue Jays, would.

I'm fine with Travis. I hope it's the type of move that AA will continue to make instead of going for the blockbuster type. Sign Martin and another OF, possibly Saunders and a couple of cheap RP and let's go. Keep the farm and let guys like Castro, Osuna, Nay, Pentecost, Hoffman, Barreto, Jansen, among a few others, continue to develop thus providing this franchise with something positive to look forward to along with Norris, Pompey, Sanchez, Lawrie. We'll see what happens.

I think they both probably have Jays on No Trade. I dont think it has anything to do with Toronto or Canada, more to do with that Carpet the Jays play on, and its harm on the knees

But ARGOOOSSSS

Signing Melky and Martin both does not harm the farm much, or the opportunity for young players.

I don't think the team has the $ to sign both Martin and Cabrera. I'd rather they sign Martin plus a cheaper option like Aoki or buy low on a guy like Saunders although it's not clear how much they'd have to give up to get him or a similar player. Team could also use another plus CF option since right now it only has Pompey.

They do if they can offload Burly,

anyways its a moot point, we all know they wont be in the market for Martin. He will get a lot more money than AA will be willing to offer.

If you believe that they can't put grass because the Argos play there 10 games for every 365 days then you were fooled.

yeah...the monstor trucks or Disney on ice probably have more to do with it than the argos!

I also like the Martin, Aoki combo....but it'd be great to sign both Martin and Cabrera. If there was a way to offload MB, and get one of the young pups to start in his place, I'd be so happy. MB is good for 12 wins, 4 ERA, but Sanchez or someone might do better and then we'd save a bit of money. I know we'd eat 80% of MB's last year.

How about Justin upton trade, plus Martin signing. I want Upton for his walk year, plus the draft pick next year when we let him walk.

Uh, no. It'd take three prospects to pry him free. Maybe 4.

Posted
For 1 year of upton? 3-4 prospects?

Well no under that scenario for me to...but I don't think it takes that.

Like almost every year, the Braves are in this to win it. Upton is a very good player. And if he walks, they get a comp pick. They may deal for a starter or something, but unless we blow them away with prospects I don't see the Braves doing a trade. Just my two cents.

Upton also has the Jays on his No-trade list.

AS per Morosi tweet on Nov 10

Justin Upton's updated no-trade list allows him to block deals to Cubs, Brewers, Indians, and Blue Jays, source says.

I wonder why so many players block us, no way it's because of the turf, you don't hear anyone block the Rays.

You wonder?

We play in Canada. We play in one of the worst stadiums on turf. We suck. We really suck. We've f***ing sucked for the last 20 years. Did i mention we suck?

Not hard to conclude that a good number of FA would try to avoid signing with the Jays given they seem to be on so many players' no-trade list.

We'll see what happens.

I think Travis could've been promoted to AAA last year and gotten some AB's. Hopefully, he gets off to a good start and is given a shot around May or so, sort of like Stroman this past season.

the perceived problem with the currency, the thought of border crossings and the fact that ownership during the Interbrew era were complete twats and now not winning for 20 years... it's a lot to swallow.

Garbage management, 21+ years of losing, and ownership is unwilling to spend. That's the real reason... Canada and the turf are just excuses that AA and Beeston push to keep the heat off themselves.

Are you so blind that you can't see the reality. Yes ownership and the mouth of JP Ricarrdi caused players to look dimly at the Jays. But that is just one of the many factors .

As o2 states , different country, Americans don't want to play outside the states, Turf, proven to be harder on the body, Rogers Center, why would pitchers want to play there. Money, we aren't willing to pay more for them to come, and marketing, Few can make the extra income outside of baseball
