Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 He's supposedly a great defender and pitch framer. I don't support the ridiculously high theoretical value for pitch framing thrown around here, but if he can provide high excess value for his defensive skill for league min then he needs to be given a serious look. Just hope he can stay healthy. He's one of those easy and cheap options to add wins that people are always talking about. All it would take is for AA to grow a pair and to give him a fair look over Navarro and Thole next season. I could care less if his OPS is .600 next year if he can show a strong defensive presence and good game calling behind the plate.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Pretty sure Navarro is penciled in and we need Thole for Dickey, so I can see Jimenez being traded this offseason for nothing Not trying to be negative, it is what it is. This team has their two catchers penciled in.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Is he out of options next season? I hope he gets a look. If Navarro is going to stay as the starter they really need to get Sal to work with him to correct his technique of receiving. I think the biggest issue is his target being too high and his elbow being extended too far forward when he catches. If he can correct these 2 issues he should be able to at least be average receiving wise.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2014 Author Posted September 29, 2014 Well he might not be growing a pair but he is certainly growing. Could be a pair of kidney stones or tumours at his rate :/
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2014 Author Posted September 29, 2014 Kidney stones are painful as f***! Well...you've seen him recently...doesn't exactly look like a man who has come from a relaxing vacation.

As far as I know, he hasn't even spent a single day on the 25 man roster so options aren't an issue and won't be for a time. I would expect both him and Nickeas to provide AAA depth again this year.

Don't you have to use an option on a guy regardless if he is on the 25 man or not depending on how long he has been on the 40 man roster?
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Is Jimenez a good framer?
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 I don't think Jimenez will ever be anything really useful to a big league team. We need to acquire some talent, whether we trade for Grandal, or sign Martin, we need to do something somewhere. But we had a $75Million dollar catcher,

I find it ridiculous that a GM lets his players dictate who is on the team. I also find it seriously stupid that Dickey doesn't understand that his pet monkey is holding the team back

Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2014 Author Posted September 30, 2014 Is Jimenez a good framer? The internet says so, though most of the argument is that he's a good defender and that equates to him being a good framer. I haven't seen nearly enough Jays MiLB games to make a good personal judgement.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2014 Author Posted September 30, 2014 I don't think Jimenez will ever be anything really useful to a big league team. We need to acquire some talent, whether we trade for Grandal, or sign Martin, we need to do something somewhere. But Kratz was worth $75M excess value over 5 years. So why isn't the guy who has a similar skill set (good glove, no bat) but 10 years younger not capable of the same potential? That is a serious question, not meant to come off as mocking the $75M figure. The options you provide sound good, except that involves AA doing hard work to make happen and/or having expanded payroll. Neither of which I think are likely options. Jimenez is the type of easy solution AA could look towards to improve the defensive game behind the plate. Assuming he is even looking to improve such a thing.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 AJ Jimenez is s***. Grandal please!! btw Grandal will play winter ball at Dominica Winter League.

Imagine if we got Grandal or Russ Martin? We could have one of the most expensive back ups in the majors in Navarro, 'cause Blue Jays, epicentre of the baseball universe.

The last thing he wants is for players to be lobbying him for their jobs. This is all on AA.

(AJJ) or a back-up making 5m (Navarro) and s*** happens like the Ervin Santana fiasco, the money irresponsibly spent annoys me.
