This guy is still terrible..especially after last night.

Not telling us nothing we don't know. If you can trade him in the offseason you have to do it. The guy looks like he can barely move in the field.

Do people here realize that Reyes will likely get to 3000 hits, which is the baseline for hall of famers

Something to think about

He has 1745 hits, is injury prone, and past his prime. Unlikely he reaches 3000.

He is only 31

He is still a very good hitter. He is going to end up with 175 hits despite being super average with the bat. If he does that the next 5 years he will have enough years

Also if he switches to 2nd base he will be less injury prone. Reyes will get there

5 years at 175 hits is only 875

Considering he is around 1750 now that means 7 years minimum

His defense is bad now at ss, it won't play at 2b either. Footwork is horrible, can't make a smooth turn

Guy won't get to 3,000

110 wRC+ is pretty damn good for a shortstop, give him credit for having a pretty good bat

Reyes for some reason likes to make jumping throws, even when there isn't a player sliding into him. Is he bored with baseball and needs to spice up the game with the Hollywood antics? Maybe a lightning bolt will hit him and he will start positioning himself properly for his throws to 1st base. That would probably eliminate at least 1/3 - 1/2 of his errors.

Goins, Goins, Goins. I thought last year that the Blue Jays found an every day good fielder in Goins and then they gave up on him after one month in 2014 for not hitting enough. The Blue Jays should have been more patient. I wish the Blue Jays weren't so focused on offence. They play a player like Francisco at 3rd (what a mistake, he can only catch a ball if it is hit directly to him) and they send Goins to the minors.

Reyes is trying to compensate for male pattern baldness by growing a patch of yellow moss on the back of his head. Don't ask me to explain the logic here, there is none.

but he's not going bald

Uhh yes, he is. Maybe not compared to you...

There was a game a little while back where the other Jays were picking on him pointing at his bald spot starting to form...

ok maybe, I probably didn't watch that game

Reyes play really stiff. He seems inflexible and that affects his ability to field balls hit in his area.

Both saki and Reyes do not seem to get good jumps on balls. This makes out pitchers look worse than they are

have you seen how much bautista is balding. Look at his hairline now compared to 2010

why the pic of Raul Castro..... been wondering about this all day

The end of an era man, the castro brothers are the only ones who stood up against the us and haven't fallen. Granted it is a poor ass country but a beautiful culture within it

Though as we know it's more about plays made

Reyes just can't get to enough balls and still makes throwing errors. Lawrie OTOH gets to everything, then occasionally makes throwing errors. I would prefer that.

UZR doesn't give the entire picture with Reyes defensively because of dumb plays like missing tags and not cutting balls off etc.. His Using DRS he has been 31 runs worse than his UZR would indicate. Thats 3 wins worse than his "WAR" would indicate. Using just this year he would only be worth 2 WAR not 2.9.

Trade this guy even if you have to kick in 10 million.

I agree. U can't win with defence like his up the middle

It's not all that common to find a good offensive shortstop who is also top shelf defensively. You kind of choose one or the other. Yunel isn't liked in the clubhouse in Tampa and when we trade him not one word by anyone was spoken that he'd be missed. That's three teams in a row that don't like the guy. His value was strictly defense. He has no speed on the bases and hits for a low average and seemed to be a walking ground out/DP candidate. Reyes gives you something at the top of the order at least. Although the price is far too high when he's not in the MVP running. Reyes brings an excellent stolen base percentage to the table and I'll cut him some slack for the bad ankle injury the turf etc.

The salary is the issue. If he were making $11 million you'd have less problems with what he brings to the team. But the bigger problem is what do you replace him with? The team can't even get an everyday second baseman and shortstop is even harder. The Jays won a world series with Manny Lee at short.

I just don't see how the Jays would be able to move Reyes. If he has to move to second I doubt anyone would pay $20million a year. His stolen base percentage is good but 26 steals isn't elite - he's not a 50-70 SB guy.

If he went to the OF you'd hope he could play center field where his numbers seem more suitable. But what would be his range? You'd think pretty good because he can run and he'd probably have an above average CF arm as well. a ~.300 10 homer 30 SB guy in CF would be okay if he plays above average defense as well.

Who plays short?

Read his FG page to get an understanding of his offence that he provides. He would be terrible in the OF because we play on turn and he would not hold up for 150 games. Also if he has terrible reads off the bat at SS he probably will in the OF as well...Think of a worse Rajai Davis.
