Be weary of Redmond's low ERA. His peripherals haven't been great, K's are down, SwStr% is way down, walks are up, and a really scary 2.3% HR/FB suggest he could be due for some big time regression, his xFIP is at 4.44.

Oh I know. I'm just saying that he's probably a better alternative than what we've been throwing out here.

Redmond is a nice guy to have as the 7th guy in the pen because he's capable of starting games when you need him to and only makes the minimum, but I don't think you want him as any more than a swingman.

2012-2013 he was a 103 wRC+ vs RHP and since he had that hot May he has failed to make any adjustments. I think that is a lot closer to his true talent. You can find half of a platoon at 3rd base that will give you similar numbers and will be a lot cheaper.

1000 PA before platoon splits stabilize.

quoting 2012-2013 means little. (still above average and useful for a bench player though)

Yeah I agree, if anything it wouldn't hurt to give Hutch a rest for a start or two.

Edwin was pretty awful early on too. Almost everyone was calling for his release. I'm not saying Juan will figure it out, but let's not pretend that it happened immediately with Edwin. With that said, I see no reason to keep him on the team right now.

Edwin 2010 WRC+ 109

Juan 2014 WRC+ 107

Edwin 2010 Fielding%@3B .932

Juan 2014 Fielding%@3B .937

Edwin played for the Reds prior to Jays

Juan played for the Reds prior to Jays

Edwin 2013-2014 = monster

Juan 2017-2018 = ????

They even have similar builds, both power hitters, born in the same country and are 4 years apart. Pretty uncanny parallels. Blue Jays would look really good in a few years if he matured the same way Edwin did.

Oh and yes: back in 2010-11 I could not believe that we didn't have the brains to DFA a 3B playing bad D, hitting poorly and showing no hustle.... boy was I f***ing wrong. Lesson was learned though, now I tend to want to give people a chance. I could stand to keep Juan a bit longer, but a few others have worn out their welcome (Rasmus im looking at you)

lol reyes :(

Happ is not getting good D behind him at all tonight. He needs to get out of this quickly and have the Jays do something with the bats for a change.

This could be a generic comment about anyone on our rotation lately.

Edwin was never great on 3rd but he his OPS with Reds showed promise. His K rate was never like Juan's and he could hit RHP too. Juan cant either that well.

Only real similarities are that they are from the Dominican and speak Spanish.

First of all LMAO at the use of fielding %. Second, and this is kind of a big deal...EDWIN HAS NEVER STRUCK OUT AT RIDICULOUS RATES LIKE JUAN FRANCISCO. Literally the only similarities between their games are that they are Dominicans with a lot of power and are likely failed 3B destined for a DH or 1B spot.

Striking out over 30% of the time is usually a recipe for disaster, Francisco is a decent platoon bat, Edwin is a monster because he has the ability to hit for power, draw a walk, and not strike out a whole lot.

You just referenced wRC+ and fielding percentage in the same post.

Amazing.

Ye ol' BB:K ratio strikes again.

Not sure where this myth about Juan Bomb having a good eye came from. A 7.4 BB% is pretty average.

He doesn't do anything well. End of story.

Your right about the platoon splits but I don't think hes a useful player as a bench piece for what he is going to cost. I think you can go cheaper and find a better alternative.

Gibby just wants to go home.

only thing worse than having to manage a bad lineup is having to answer stupid questions in the middle of the game.

Has this team tuned out for the season or is this just another one of their slumps? Probably a slump, teams don't quit...

He's nothing to be excited about.

But for a guy on the bench who can hit RHP at an above average clip is useful IMO.

Why use f***ing McGowan? Does Gibby know that Drabek is up?

Most managers don't like bringing a long man in with a bunch of runners on base, they prefer to start them the following inning with the bases clean.

It's a somewhat high leverage situation. Not that McGowan should be used in said situations Probably better then Drabek though.
