Brenner Verified Member Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 What are peoples thoughts on Carl Crawford? Seems like the obvious man out of that Dodgers OF. I think he would fit here in LF and batting 2nd but the money is an obvious issue. I was thinking something along the lines of Buehrle + Romero for Crawford but I still think LA would need to eat at least half the money difference. Crawford might be able to produce 4.5 war over 3 years at $60 mil... Buehrle (+Ricky) is a lock for about 3 war over 1 year at about $28 mil Yuck, nevermind, doubt LA would eat the $20mil needed to make this deal work. This deal would atleast address the OF while actually creating payroll space for this year.

Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 I am firmly against trading MB..... The guy is a work horse that guarantees you 200 innings. And with the young rotation we will have that is something that we need.
shortstop Verified Member Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 hear ya Sammy. I think the thinking is unless AA can pull off a miracle to "round out" the team, he'll likely be able to only do so if he uses the $XM at his disposal and trades some salary away, with Buehrle the most obvious candidate since Reyes likely won't be touched by anyone (leaving aside the issue of getting a new lead off man & new shortstop).
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 I don't think anything is going to happen in OF. Pompey looks good and ready This team needs a 2b

Pretty much I think that has been the plan and I expect AA to stick by that

IMO if we can't re-sign Cabrera, we still have a few options without having to toss Beuhrle or Reyes aside... #1 - Try to trade w/ Seattle (maybe something around Dickey?) for OF Michael Saunders ($2.9M) to play LF - only 27yo & fairly cheap, ARB eligible #2 - Use the new found 'No Cabreba/Dickey/Rasmus' money ($27M in 2014) to try and sign Russel Martin (4yrs @ $40M)... over pay if we have to - we need him badly! #3 - Try to work a deal w/ LAA for Kendrick ($9.5M if he'll come here), or else try to ink Asdrubal Cabrera/Jed Lowrie ($7-8M per, multi yr deal) to start at 2B. #4 - Offer deals to John Axford and Jesse Crain to replace Morrow/McGowan, Axford has potential closing ability, just released so could probably be had for cheap. Crain is a nice mid-reliever coming off an injury which may have lowered his price. This leave us looking like... SP - Beuhrle, Hutch, Stroman, Sanchez, Happ RP - Cecil, Estrada, Loup, Norris, Redmond, Jenkins, Axford, Crain C - Martin, Navarro 1B - Encarnacion, Valencia 2B - Kendrick/Cabrera/Lowrie, Izturis/Goins 3B - Lawrie, Valencia SS - Reyes, Izturis/Goins LF - Saunders, Gose/Dirks/Mayberry/Pillar CF - Pompey, Gose/Dirks/Mayberry/Pillar RF - Bautista, Gose/Dirks/Mayberry/Pillar DH - Navarro, Encarnacion/Valencia IMO, this roster is good enough to make the playoffs, or at least close as long as the pitching staff holds up. It is also capable of giving the Canadian fan-base a huge `Maple-Boner'!!!
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 Top 400 prospect, roughly. He was the ERA and WHIP leader in the PCL last year.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 He was the ERA and WHIP leader in the PCL last year. Pretty similar numbers to T. Wada but he's nearly ten years younger.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 One of the better acquisitions the Blue Jays could make would be investing in BioAnalytics. You could prevent many of the soft tissue injuries that happen with the Jays. I mean just look down the street to what the Raptors are doing and its not hard to figure out...
glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 The Jays should not trade Dickey or Buehrle. How are they going to replace those innings? They can't and won't. Just hold on to them and fix the actual problems with the team. My guess is Happ will be traded and Sanchez will be pencilled in for the #5 spot, which is why Estrada was probably attractive to AA since he can be used as insurance in case Sanchez struggles/gets hurt/needs more time in AAA. If you're going to have at least 2, if not 3, young starters in the rotation, guys like Dickey and Buehrle are that much more valuable. I'd actually prefer adding one more 200 IP league average type guy instead of using Sanchez (think, Jeremy Guthrie type) to put in the #5 spot, but not too many of those floating around. If AA has any last gasp miracle in him, he can turn Happ into a quality 2B. I don't know how he could possibly pull that off, but there has to be some malcontent 2B with talent somewhere that another team wants to dump, or a team with an extra 2B they could move. The Cubs are too smart to do Valbuena for Happ but something along those lines is sorely needed. I could live with the Bautista/Pompey/Gose/Pillar/Dirks OF in that case.

Axford and McPherson. Jason Lane who could fill a mop up bullpen role as well as extra bat off the bench could be mildly interesting. Wilmer Font for the pen!

Gives up too many HR's but worth a look in Buffalo. Jake Elmore would make sense for the Jays. Not going to get a major league role and could be an injury replacement if the 25th man gets hurt. Can hit lefties. Love seeing Zach Stewart on there. Not as much fun with Grant going MIA

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Justin Jackson,s name just reminds me of our huge 07 draft failure Jackson was one of those guys I thought would hit the majors. I didn't think he'd be good but I though he could be a reserve. When they moved him to the OF that was the death knell. All glove shortstop who doesn't actually have the glove to play shortstop, womp, womp. When the absolutely pointless exercise of moving him there worked as well as expected they actually tried him at pitcher which made a hell of a lot more sense since his only tool is his arm but that was too little, too late.

Hawkins Verified Member Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 With the Rockies discussing the idea of making Cargo available I suggest Cargo and Morneau for Pompay, Osuna and a couple lower level players. Then ship Happ and Nolin for Kendrik. Add a reliever in FA and call it a day.
