Oh, in the first vote, 7 teams voted against him. (Including Beeston/Rogers/Jays) aparently

@JonHeymanCBS: So the 7 votes against were both sox, blue jays, diamondbacks, angels, a's and reds. Before the official 30-0 vote anyway

Hopefully he shortens the games to 6 innings and cuts the season to 82 games...

7 innings

144 game reg season

Best of 3 for the WC

The playoffs and the regular season schedule are fine as is. If you want a short season go watch football!

Edit: I wouldn't be opposed to extending the one 5-game series to 7 but it's not a big deal, good teams usually cruise through that.

Actually I wouldn't be averse to cutting the regular season back slightly; they can then fit a bit more playoffs in there, such as a best of 3 wildcard play in. Doubt they'll back down from the 162 number though.

Well football is not in the summer unfortunately so there's only MLB.

I'm not a huge fan so I'm obviously biased, but do you enjoy waiting an entire week for your team to play their next game? I completely understand that it's a much more physical sport so they do likely need the days off, but imagine that in baseball, where fans get desperate on days off and that's only every 1-2 weeks and only for one day (except on the All-Star break of course).

Isn't there a rule for this that just isn't enforced?

Is this referring time between pitches or time of delivery? Either way I think there's a rule for each already implanted.

Eliminate divisions and balance the schedule within leagues

Top 3 in NL and top 3 in AL get a full series 1 vs WC and 2 vs 3 within league

2 more teams in each league are wildcards and play each other crossover style before playing the AL/NL champs

Apparently Manfred is on good terms with the union, while Reinsdorf was anti union.

I guess the Jays wanted Reinsdorf because they wanted to save money lol

Baseball's supposed to be the timeless sport though. I feel like an actual clock would make everyone antsy. I think they should limit timeouts instead to one per PA. The pitcher can't leave the mound and the hitter the batters box more than once per PA.

I want an actual pitch clock. The pitch time rule (8.04) can't really be enforced as is. And I'd change the rule, regardless. 12 seconds from the time the catcher receives the ball from the ump (if ball is replaced) or the time the catcher receives the ball from the pitcher.

This is what I was thinking of.

Yeah, every game in the NFL is like a playoff game. Honestly I used to watch every Jays game but now I only catch 1-2 games a week of 3-6 innings so I really wouldn't mind if they cut down the season.

It's really hard to watch 162 3-4 hour games but I haven't been a hardcore baseball fan in awhile so I understand why you hardcores would oppose.

I think people like the NFL more because you only have to commit to one game a week. Think of how many hours you spend watching the Blue Jays during a season.

Plus fantasy football, betting, non-stop coverage and marketing. The Nfl is ridiculously popular in North America

It would be in the interest in the MLB to enforce that as well. If everyone had a Buehrle attitude on the mound, and batters ditched the Jeter " adjust batting gloves every pitch for no god damn reason", viewership and interest would go up, guaranteed.

Pitch clock

Hitters have to be ready when the pitcher is ready - one timeout per AB (maybe per game, actually)

Pitchers have to face minimum 3 batters, barring legitimate injury (pitcher pulled for injury is out for succeeding 5 games)

Relocation should be encouraged (minimum standards need to be met to stay in a particular market), but would also require sale of team to a new ownership group at a minimum set value below 100% of original purchase (adjusted for TVOM), but not too far below it. You fail in your market, you don't get to try again.

Ban the DH

Harsher penalties for PED use

How would a pitch clock work with runners on base? Reset if they throw to first?

I agree with the pitchers having to face a minimum of three batters and the one time out per AB.

I disagree on banning the DH and the current PED penalties are just fine.

I think this new commish will see an expansion sooner rather than later. It's been 17 seasons. Team values have gone up, TV deals up, salaries up...just in general a lot more money has been given to the MLB. I know there are a couple of teams not thriving in their current location, but the idea of 32 teams appeal to me as I love the symmetry the powers of 2 afford us. It just makes division splitting so easy (preferably 2 divisions of 8 teams in each league).

How would you format the playoffs if you have 2 divisions of 8 or 4 divisions of 4?

Good f***ing riddance to Selig. If the only thing Manfred does in office is to bring back the Expos, he'll already have done a better job than that piece of crap.

Although I love the idea of the Expos, I don't know how much you think he can do. The will for a baseball team has to come from the city and at least one rich inhabitant to take care of the glaring issues...like a decent ballpark for instance.

The good thing about that or a western Canadian team is the nonsense about the Jays being "Canada's team" would go away and the half-hearted fans like you who cheer for the team by default because they happen to share the border would cheer for their own team instead. I don't mean to be derogatory by that comment either. I liked the Expos growing up too, but if the Jays were the ones that were lost and only the Expos remained, I'd cheer for them, but the Toronto team would be the one with my true loyalty. The Expos would never be "Canada's team" in my eyes. So why should the Jays be that for Habs and Canucks fans? Same idea with the Raptors.
