G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 Per ESPN and Olney Other players likely involved
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 28, 2014 Author Posted July 28, 2014 Is that who the Red Sox would really want for Lester??
Rajais Mitten Verified Member Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 I'm surprised anyone wants Lester really. Yea he is obviously a good pitcher to have but did he not say he wants to go back to Boston anyways
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 G-Snarls, can you provide the actual quote where Olney says this? I don't have Insider.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 G-Snarls, can you provide the actual quote where Olney says this? I don't have Insider. I actually don't see anything imminent on twitter, just speculation on top of what we already knew over the weekend
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 28, 2014 Author Posted July 28, 2014 They want Kemp/Pederson + Dude, from Boston says it isn't true. His name slips me at the moment. Carfado?
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 From what I read he did say that he wants or is interested in going back to Boston, and this is why they are open to trading him so that they can get something at least for his last 2 months. Then again, 'interested' is not a 100% guarantee he resigns.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 Is that who the Red Sox would really want for Lester?? you're only trading a third of a season of Lester. Kemp is a good controllable player. If the sox could convince the Dodgers to make that trade and eat a significant portion of the salary to get to a number you're comfortable with, they would be dumb not to make that trade. They could lose Lester for nothing in 4 days. Kemp at 5 years 14 mil AAV would be nothing for the sox. They just have to convince the Dodgers to pay the money and the dodgers have more money than they know what to do with right now.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 I actually don't see anything imminent on twitter, just speculation on top of what we already knew over the weekend Yeah that's why I asked lol. I just see speculation about Lester to LA and Kemp to the AL, then people putting two and two together. Seems like a real stretch.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 I smell media-ocrity. No way dodgers give up Pederson or Urias. Zach Lee is mostly what they're offering plus secondary C prospects
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 28, 2014 Author Posted July 28, 2014 Will delete thread if this gets quashed

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 I wonder if the Blue Jays were to make a package for Lester what it would be? Red Sox won't lose him for nothing because they will at least get a draft pick back. If it was straight up Lester for Kemp even with a ton of money coming back that would be a terrible deal for the Red Sox. Kemp might be worth like 35 million at the most.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 Will delete thread if this gets quashed jim Bowden was talking about this trade on mlb radio the other day and thought it made sense....didn't think it would happen, but thought it actually made sense. Kemp for lester straight swap with some cash involved would be a doable trade. There's zero chance Pedersen would be involved in this trade though.

I'd trade Dickey for Lester...dickey has a couple years at 12.5 mil and he's and innings eater number 4....at least they get something for Lester, and Lester would get traded to a team you would not worry about them resigning him. Jays would probably have to throw in a prospect too. If you trade Lester to the Dodgers, there's a good chance you don't get him back. Trade him to the Jays and there's a strong chance you get him back..lol

Why would the Red Sox trade for Kemp even if they get him for 40 million? Lester could bring you back a good package for a rental and since you aren't winning this year you may as well take a flyer on a guy like Rasmus instead of paying a ton of money for Kemp who is declining.

The sox also aren't looking to rebuild...they want to win every year. I can't say we disagree on Bowden though.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 I wonder if the Red Sox would do a Nolin, Barreto deal for Lester? Its a lot to give up for a rental but the Blue Jays could really use Lester and im trying to think of a deal the Red Sox would actually accept.

You'd need to give up an actual top prospect and a secondary piece or two to get Lester. They're not giving him away.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 28, 2014 Author Posted July 28, 2014 This was said during an ESPN news update. Guessing a reported over interpreted what Olney has been tweeting. I mean it's possible but obviously not very solid.

Sorry, but WUT???
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 Would you do 1 of Pompey/Norris and a secondary piece for Lester??? I would do Pompey and a secondary piece for Lester, yes. Not Norris though.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 Would you do 1 of Pompey/Norris and a secondary piece for Lester??? I was thinking of Pompey for Lester straight up but I don't know if I part with that just for a rental. I think the Red Sox would potentially pull the trigger on that.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 Sorry, but WUT??? If I was the Red Sox I would sign Rasmus in Free agency for a 1 year deal opposed to trading for Kemp and paying him a ton of money.

Ah That actually makes sense I think most of us presumed you meant trade Lester for Rasmus which doesn't

Red Sox are going to be in a 40 man roster crunch this off season. They have some decent prospects that they will either have to add or expose to the rule 5 draft. Any deal they make will be for prospects that don't have to be added to the 40 man.
fireballW Verified Member Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 I like the Dickey deal in this thread. They get a 4th starter for next year which is pretty useful. We get an upgrade for this season. Makes us stronger this year and makes them stronger next year. Im probably a bit biased since Dickey annoys me though.

Well I don't think Barreto has to be added to the 40 man for a couples years, no? The Red Sox could become a very good team in a couple of years, great farm system and collection of young talent. If they can get even more young talent for Lester, they will be pretty scary in 2016.
