G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 Good for them Curious what it cost them
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 Everyone is doing something except us. That's sure how it feels We are so on the fence. So are KC and Tampa though.
Rajais Mitten Verified Member Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 It's typical really that everyone does something of some sort of real value and we'll continue to look at brandon barnes like he is the make or break of this team
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 peavy goes to giants for minor league pitchers #redsox #SFgiants
Nabru Verified Member Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 He'll do well in that park and that league.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 He did win a Cy Young with San Diego! I think people forget how good he was. Same as RAD?

North of 60 Verified Member Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 Pathetic. The Jays remind of a junk man. The guy who goes to the junkyard to find spare parts for his car trying to be cheap, crafty and creative. Everyone else just goes to the dealership and buys the high end parts and does it right.

AA already made his move for "high end parts", it just so happened that he went for the wrong parts. Jays weren't in on Peavy although I do agree with the sentiment over all, especially when it comes to a guy like McCarthy.
Nabru Verified Member Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 Let's be realisitc. Brandon Morrow, in AA's mind IS his July/August pitching acquisition. Probably also falls under the category of his players acquisition as well. I don't know why people still think Toronto can/could add a Headley type with that salary considering the Dominicans and Buerhle had to pass around the hat for a mid-rotation starter in January/February.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 They got Edwin Escobar from the giants hahaha. Cherrington stays winning
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 Jon Morosi @jonmorosi Red Sox will obtain Edwin Escobar and Heath Hembree from Giants for Jake Peavy, source confirms @Buster_ESPN report.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 if the Sox were smart, they'd get one core MLB-ready piece for Lester, then turn around and wow him with a high AAV 5-year deal to reacquire him this offseason. And if they act quickly, they can hurt the Rayspists' potential trade market for Price while they're at it. Just as a little bonus. I don't think price is getting traded
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 Neither Hembree or Escobar are very exciting but they're major leaguers. I think Peavy will come up big for the Giants. Good trade for both sides.

Good trade for both sides. They traded their #2 prospect. I don't think they had such a strong farm to begin with though. Still a good return for the Red Sox.

Still a good return for the Red Sox. Escobar was Baseball America's preseason #2 Giants prospect, but he's not that anymore. Back-end profile. -- Price is going to get moved. He's been too good recently and there are too many desperate teams not to trade him.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 Not a bad deal for Boston. There is something to be said for having a plethora of solid major leaguers. This trade likely means Miller and Uehara, and other bullpen pieces will be dealt as well. Still, Boston could use some offensive prospects as well.. there's no power(20-30HR threat) bat coming in their system.

Not with the Rays only 4.5 back, and possibly less if the Rays and Jays win today.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 Uh, Escobar was a B+ prospect (Sickels) and the 56th best prospect in MLB before the season (BA). Struggled in the PCL, but it's the PCL. I'd say, for 10 or starts of mediocre Peavy, getting a mid-rote guy and a possible cheap bullpen piece ... That's pretty exciting. Unless you wanted them to get one of those never-ending low minors high ceiling guys that rarely pan out, but get prospect effers all beside themselves. Escobar's more of a back-end guy. I agree that the Red Sox did well by the way, just saying it's not like the Red Sox got a couple big future assets. They got some useful arms. Not with the Rays only 4.5 back, and possibly less if the Rays and Jays win today. No, it's going to happen. The Mariners or an NL team will do something crazy.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 Call me crazy but I think the Rays can overtake the Blue Jays and Yankees without Price. They are probably going to get a couple major league ready guys as well. You're crazy
Cooler Heads Prevail Verified Member Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 That's sure how it feels We are so on the fence. So are KC and Tampa though. That's been the Jays for quite a few years now. We fall back in the AL East in the second half because our peers are active at the deadline almost every year. Look at the Yankees, once they lost Tanaka they had much worse chances then our team moving forward. Yet they've already added 3-4 useful players trying to fill their holes and are threatening to make a "bigger move" in the press. Even if half of them bomb they gained on these transactions.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 In todays paper, Elliot reports an exec told him, Jays could've had Headley with the Padres eating the contract for Francisco and 2 prospects from the lower levels C type. Jesus H.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 Jesus H. He had better have not done this deal because he thinks he has a better one almost done.
