Sportsnet kept showing a terrible angle of the bag, it didn't look like he was hurt prior to touching the bag but we can't know.

 

To me it looked like he hit the bag awkwardly. Half of his foot on the bag and a lot of the pressure went on his lower leg. To me that looks like a calf or achilles.
