Chappy Community Moderator Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 It definitely makes more sense if the team has definitely turned the page on Morrow (which I guess was your original point). Should what Morrow does between now and the end of the season change anything? Probably not. He would still have the injury history hanging over him and he probably won't be that impressive on the mound anyways. A funny thing happened while everyone was waiting for Morrow to fulfill his potential. He got older and crappier. It's a bit like Overbay. He came back from a major injury just in time for father time to rob him of his skills. Yup. At some point you have to cut ties. This is a team intent on contending next season and as you mentioned Morrow is not getting any younger. We have some younger options close to the majors who would have pushed him out anyways at some point. I like Colon for a year and change and then the Jays have the option of letting all three of Buehrle, Dickey and Colon walking after the 2015 season. Granted Dickey does have an option for 2016.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 Colon? Meh...however if price is not too steep the depth is welcome in our rotation. Cant believe we are still talking about the guy from that infamous Expos deal - still around and still reasonably effective. 9 and 11mm given what Arroyo signed for is not that big of a risk, but the guy is the opposite of Jared from the Subway ads. Every time I see him he looks like he ate another basketball.

I then called back and asked what would it take to get this done and done now. So, after about 5 minutes they said 'give us Sanchez, Nay, and A.J. Jimenez with about $1M. So, we made the deal since we had to go all in since we're still near the top of the division. We think it's a fair trade. We would have liked them to send us a personal catcher for him too but you can't always get everything you want."
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 It's crazy that Oakland got this production for $5 Million. http://s15.postimg.org/7wkefcmu3/image.jpg Oakland is doing the same thing this year with Kazmir and Chavez.

JaysFan4Ever Verified Member Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 It is something on how Oakland is getting that production from Chavez and Kazmir. Seems like some teams are very good at taking players off the scrap heap and turning them into something or in Kazmir's case back to where they were a few years ago. It would be nice if Chavez could have done that in his Jays days but the Jays have Bautista and EE.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 Chavez yes, Kazmir, not so much. $11 million for Kazmir has been a bargain so far.

JaysFan4Ever Verified Member Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 Don't forget Juan Francisco Ah! How'd I forget about him? He's been a nice pick up thus far. Would be better if he could cut down on the strike outs and/or make contact a bit more but considering he came out of nowhere and was cheap he's a bargain.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 I typed "Juan Francisco" in the google search engine and those weird images popped up again haha

ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 It would be cool having the fattest team in MLB.
