Rybar Verified Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 I just read this on my fantasy website and thought id share with you. It says there's more at foxsports.com Cubs, Blue Jays at a stalemate for Jeff Samardzija The Cubs and Blue Jays can't agree on a deal for pitcher Jeff Samardzija, according to FoxSports.com. The Cubs are willing to make a deal, but Toronto is hesitant to meet Chicago's demands. The Cubs are reportedly asking for three prospects, pitcher Aaron Sanchez, pitcher Daniel Norris and outfielder Dalton Pompey. The Blue Jays are rumored to be willing to part with maybe one or two of those players, but do not want to deal all three. Samardzija is expected to be dealt by the trade deadline. He owns a 2.53 ERA over 103 innings. It's my first post, so be easy on me! Thx

HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Oh man that would hurt. We really don't have any other outstanding bat in the system, do we? I guess Barreto would be up top, but still. I also can't stomach giving up two of our best pitching prospects. I'd be comfortable with Sanchez and Pompey.

As long as you'rr clear on the source of your information, no one should have an issue with a post like this. I guess you could have posted it in an existing thread about Samaridzija but the thread that gets bumped periodically is really old and no one could blame you for not finding it. If anyone thinks it's a big deal the threads can always be merge but I don't know why a new poster would want to read through pages of pages of speculation that go back to the off-season. I prefer this fresh start actually.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Sanchez/Norris + Pompey + s*** (Cole, G-Murphy, Glenn)
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Sanchez/Norris + Pompey + s*** (Cole, G-Murphy, Glenn) I'd rather trade both Sanchez and Norris than move Pompey. The OF situation going forward is pretty bleak.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 I'd rather get a legit 2B/SS and guy like McCarthy than give up Sanchez, Norris and Pompey. This seems legit though as AA went to watch Sanchez and Pompey play.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 They can have Sanchez. I wouldn't deal all 3 either. Aaron Sanchez, Kyle Drabek and D.J Davis would be my offer. Right now.... Aaron Sanchez, Kyle Drabek and D.J Davis = Joe Blanton
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Hey, in the offseason, the Cubs wanted Sanchez/Stroman and Hutchison +, I guess they've lowered their demands.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 I'll give up those 3 only if Cubs give up someone who helps our infield situation too Otherwise 2 of those 3 max So... probably won't happen

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Sanchez, Norris and Pompey for Shark and Alcantara
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 You'd rather move the better player because of position need? No thanks. Better player my ass. Pompey has a better floor than either of the pitchers. They may have higher ceilings but they are more than likely both busts. I really wouldn't feel bad about moving them both for a year and a half of Shark.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 The only one I can think of is Valbuena....yuck. Not that the Cubs would trade him but Starlin Castro would be an asset.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 The Blue Jays again had multiple scouts in attendance for Jeff Samardzija‘s outing yesterday, including pro scouting director Perry Minasian, reports Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports. Much of the chatter regarding Samardzija to this point has included speculation when it comes to Chicago’s asking price, but Morosi hears “strong indications” that the Cubs would deal Samardzija for a package highlighted by right-hander Aaron Sanchez, left-hander Daniel Norris and center fielder Dalton Pompey. Toronto GM Alex Anthopoulos has maintained that he won’t include all three of those prospects in a deal for Samardzija or any other available pitcher — even David Price — according to Morosi’s report. He also notes that as much as the Blue Jays like Samardzija, they may prefer Price and Philadelphia southpaw Cole Hamels (though the latter isn’t guaranteed to be available). http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/06/latest-on-blue-jays-interest-in-jeff-samardzija.html
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 I want to keep the youth, especially the 3 rumoured here since 2 of them are at AA and the 3rd (Pompey) arguably should be promoted to AA. Should've spent the money in the off season...
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Not worth all 3 of those. and I think Pompey is going to be great, I'd like to hold on to him.

Under the category of No s*** Sherlock.

I haven't checked the #'s but if I recall he plays 2B just like how Francisco plays 3B.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 How is that an overpay. He's signed for next season as well is he not?
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Darwin Barney? I haven't checked the #'s but if I recall he plays 2B just like how Francisco plays 3B. Lol....not at all. Barney is more like Ryan Goins. Elite with the glove but can't hit
glory Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Sanchez, Pompey and Norris should almost be enough to pry both Zobrist and Price from the Rays. (We'd likely have to add another piece) That would be a far better option than "pay me 20+ mill a year" Shark My thoughts exactly. If AA is going to gut the farm system to win now, then trade your top guys for Price and Zobrist. Adds way more wins than Shark, and we know those guys (Price most importantly) can pitch in the AL East.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Lol....not at all. Barney is more like Ryan Goins. Elite with the glove but can't hit thanks for the correction, I mixed up Castro/Barney
glory Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Though I will add I would prefer to keep the prospects. I don't want there to be a window period. I'm just saying if they are adamant about trading prospects for short term gain, then make sure it is for elite talent.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 thanks for the correction, I mixed up Castro/Barney Sent you a DM Unforgivable mistake
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 We could have just signed a FA starter or 2B this off season so that we only needed one of those things instead of 2. Just sayin'...

Buster Verified Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 These trade threads stress me out. I normally don't keep up with our overall farm system, so the only players I hear about are our bigger profile prospects. So I never know if we have a prospect that replaces guys like Norris or Sanchez.
