BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 I highly doubt anyone is willing to give up decent players/prospects for an old, struggling knuckleballer who isn't exactly cheap contract-wise. Given what Arroyo, Jiminez, Garza and other FAs got who haven't exactly lit it up, his contract is pretty cheap considering the # of 2/3 starter innings he puts up. Im hoping he gets it together in 2nd half moreso. Today he wasn't bad at all....he just will never meet expectations.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 I would like to make him a Super Long Man! Should be able to pitch 1-2 innings throwing 20-50 pitches every second day!
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 It's hilarious how he needs to be pampered - roof closed, Henry Blanco, Josh Thole as his personal catcher. What else does he need? An extra 5 mph on his fastball
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 He's not terrible, he's not great. But he's a wildcard and thre is some baggae as mentioned above. Texas would want him, they always did. Heck, they even need a better backup catcher and Thole's numbers look decent right now. You could possibly even get something really good back from them. But then you have to go and get another SP yourself. This might be possible in the off season when you can sign a free agent to replace him, but likely wouldn't work right now.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 Price + Samardjza then throw Dickey one inning a game and roll with: Price Dickey (1IP) Samardjza Dickey Stroman Dickey Hutch Dickey Buehrle Dickey Wouldn't Buerhle's velocity pretty much render the Dickey effect moot? Though with Price the effect would be nasty.

Statman Verified Member Posted June 28, 2014 Author Posted June 28, 2014 I hate to be reactionary but Dickey is one of the most frustrating and annoying players to watch in baseball.
S33n Verified Member Posted June 28, 2014 Posted June 28, 2014 Seems counter-intuitive since we need pitching but his knuckleball has shown he is incapable of shutting down teams, isn't logging enough innings and his personal catcher hurts our bench. This would be a bold move by our GM but I think it could improve our team in many aspects including improving our pitching, saving a prospect in a deal and improving our bench which has been shorthanded all year. Kratz would also see more time behind the plate. His contract is reasonable and I'm sure teams would have interest and find value in his skill set. This would be equivalent to trying to trade an over priced Tim Wakefield, what are you going to expect in return?
TDotttt2005 Verified Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 They key is to add to the rotation, not replace a present piece. Thats why I always laugh when I hear about the Cubs asking for Stroman and/or Hutch in a deal for the Shark. Why would we give up 2 rotation pieces to get 1 back, when we're trying to ADD to our rotation. That being said. If getting Rogers to pony up more money to add pieces is going to be as hard in July as it was in Dec-March, and clearing Dickey's salary would help ease the burden, I'd do it. Its arguable, and I'm sure part of me is just reacting to Dickey's last start, but he's easily been outpitched by JA Happ, and is in effect the 5th starter now....getting rid of him could be addition by subtraction. Do we have confidence starting this guy in the playoffs? Against the Angels or Tigers' lineup? No thanks.

This team can't even split a 4-game series with the White Sox and you're worried about the play offs!!!

kgm1 Verified Member Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 This team isn't trading Dickey or any other piece on the MLB roster right now thus like Spanky said this thread is dumb. Certainly if your out of it at the deadline then fine trade a bunch of the old vets , gut the team and rebuild with the key pieces you get back. BUT the team is in FIRST place Absolute stupidity to think this team will trade him
