OT: Former Jays Pitcher Brad Mills Dealt for $1, Starts for A's.

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports had the scoop Tuesday night. Word is, the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports, the A's will move Mills into their starting rotation after Drew Pomeranz punched a chair and broke his hand after a rough outing.

 

Mills, 29, has a 7.76 ERA in 53 1/3 major league innings over three stints with the Blue Jays and (for one start in 2012) the Angels. But his numbers at Class AAA Nashville this season have been spectacular: A 1.56 ERA with 77 strikeouts in 75 innings with fewer than one baserunner per inning allowed over 14 games, including 12 starts.

 

Go figure...I'm hoping he does well. Anytime you see someone dealt for a buck you gotta root for the guy.

Milwaukee seems to have dealt Mills because he was close to opting out of his deal and they weren't going to promote him.

 

So instead of letting him go and potentially join a rival, they were happy to hand him to an American League team. Pretty smart IMO.

I've always thought Mills is a guy who should be moved to the pen. Decent command (at least in the minors) and a big hook, and the move should tick his velocity up a bit. Oakland is a perfect fit for him though (which I've mentioned in the past).
