What Kind of bonus is this guy looking at? By the sound of it sounds like it will be north of 5 million. Be interesting because teams who are already over the cap would be paying double to sign the guy.

I don't know if he's going to have much leverage, since most teams will have blown their figurative wads before he's eligible to sign, and other than the Yankees, teams probably aren't all that eager to go insane with dollars. He'd probably have commanded more money before this new system went into place, but in the new system I'm not sure how much he'll be able to command.

After.

Pff, then it's no big deal to be honest. Only 14-15mil or so.

It may seem a lot because their cap was like 2mil but still, not that much. They should go after all the top prospects and add 500k to every offer they have.

I thought I remember us trading some guy for another teams funds in the international free agent signing period.

That cap space was for the previous year's IFA budget, meaning it was only useable prior to this IFA period. Like JFaS said, it was used to sign Hansel Rodriguez.

Rule 5 Draft gives Blue Jays financial flexibility

Toronto flips Moran to Halos for international cap space, cash considerations

By Gregor Chisholm / MLB.com | 12/12/2013

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- The Blue Jays used the fifth pick in the Rule 5 Draft on Thursday morning to gain a little bit more flexibility on the international market.

Toronto selected left-hander Brian Moran from the Mariners, but the Blue Jays then traded him to the Angels for international cap space and cash considerations. Toronto will receive $240,000 in cap room from the Halos, which can be used on international free agents.

The move was essentially a no-brainer for the Blue Jays, considering they didn't have much use for a Rule 5 Draft pick and have interest in at least one international player.

"We knew we weren't necessarily going to be active in the Rule 5 [Draft]," general manager Alex Anthopoulos said. "We have a bunch of out-of-option guys in the bullpen already that we're going to look to keep, plus [Moises] Sierra is out of options. "We weren't so compelled with what was out there. We didn't think it was an upgrade over what we had. [We] just tried to turn the asset of having a spot and convert it into something."

The Blue Jays have also signed 16 year old Mexican RHP Guadalupe Chavez. No bonus known yet.

"The Blue Jays signed two of the top 30 international amateur prospects for July 2, inking righthander Juan Meza and shortstop Kevin Vicuna. Both players are 16-year-olds from Venezuela, and they appear here in Minor League Transactions, unlike the majority of July 2 signings, because Toronto provisionally assigned them to the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League roster."

Ace, do you know who Edward Olivares is? 96' born, just started playing for the DSL Jays a few days ago. Never heard of him, or heard of him signing. He's been playing in the OF.

Probably a better question for Angelo. I'll check if BA has anything on him.
