YEah matchups are fine but they are not the be all end all. Gibbons lives and dies by them, not his fault loup forgot to throw strikes.

That intentional walk was an incredibly poor decision. Don't understand why they did that.

 

I'm not sure what's hard to understand? You walk the RHB to set up the inning ending double play with the platoon advantage... He even got the ground ball. Just cuz it dribbled through the IF doesn't mean it was a a bad decision.

 

I think the mistake Gibbons made was not having a RHP ready to if Loup struggled. gibbons so rarely has two guys warming these days, even with a well rested pen.

The wrong move was keeping Loup in there 20 pitches in...to pitch to Ellis, Bourjos and Cruz....they had Jenkins warming...I guess Gibbons didn't want to chance that the Cards would pinch hit some guys like Kolten Wong, Jon Jay or Yadier Molina.
