reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 He would not be putting up those same numbers in Toronto. He's be better than what we have but not as good as he's been in Atlanta. He'd be fine. He is prone to homeruns but is a legitimate starting pitcher who can go out there every fifth day and throw some innings. Happ and McGowan can't do this and Stroman is a question mark.
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 Stroman has looked quite hittable He's shown some nice pitches but I agree overall. Really, until he gets a shot to start a couple of games it's hard to have any judgement.
Bunchedundies Verified Member Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 LOL at this starting rotation, this team has a legit offense, AA and the FO should be ashamed they never brought in another arm or 2.
Bunchedundies Verified Member Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 f*** you Ervin Santana Goddammit This too, and Ian Kinsler .

And how would you suggest they would have done that without any money. He had a deal to trade relief pitching but people didn't pass medicals.
shortstop Verified Member Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 It sounds like after hearing from McGowan that it was a recovery issue. He said he was not recovering well between starts and it was a mutual decision. Take it for what it is worth though. P.S Change your Avatar it freaks me out. yeah, this is fine imo if it's a mutual decision & likely how it went down...they've done right by McGowan, gave him a chance to start & see if he was able/willing to do it, and moving him to the bullpen at his request...
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 This too, and Ian Kinsler . Kinsler at 2B, Goins on bench Santana in the rotation instead of McGowan McGowan in the bullpen Santos in Texas Think about how much better that team.would have been in April. The only problem would have been that with Jansen's injury they probably would have had Delabar closing games. He would have blown some but probably no more than Santos I give AA *some* credit. Those deals would have been good and it's not his fault that they fell through.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 maybSomeone on twitter thought removing McGowan from rotation was a firable offence on AA because we don't have anyone better. *facepalm* Ack Get a clue people Redmond Stroman or Nolin
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted May 16, 2014 Author Posted May 16, 2014 wtf is up with Nolin - does anyone still feel for this guy? Last I heard he was K'ing people. I hope he doesn't end up like Brad Mills who had pretty impressive numbers in the minors but everyone didn't like him.

Don't know His numbers look great. they obviously like Stroman more because they called him up first, even though Nolin's service clock had already been (foolishly) started last year.

reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 mayb Ack Get a clue people Redmond Stroman or Nolin I just remember one Nolin start when he came up and he looked really bad. As in, not major league material whatsoever. He's 24 and I believe spent most of last year in AA with good but unspectacular numbers for AA. Rogers would be a much better option than Nolin IMO.

reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 It should be Stroman but maybe he hasn't impressed them enough to get a start. I think he's shown good enough stuff and composure to get a shot, but maybe not. Since they're trying to win ballgames it'll probably be Redmond. He's more likely to at least keep them in ball games.

Stroman has absolutely crushed AAA, 1.58 FIP in five starts. I'd say that's impressive enough to get a start. I trust him more than Redmond.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 McGowan deservedly got a chance to be a starter again. He now knows his body simply can't handle it. This worked out absolutely fine. I'm sure he's disappointed but at least he won't spend another year or two wondering "what if"

I'm so happy we gave hi a chance, though. He's going to be valuable in the 'pen. Is he sort of a 2-3 innings ugh now, or a set up guy for the 8th or 9th, meaning, 2-3 batters?

JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 Hope our bats get hot when Stroman starts, we'll need them to come from behind a large deficit.
Convo Verified Member Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 Have you seen his major league ERA? Kid is too cocky to handle the show. He needs to stop chewing gum and focus on getting guys out. So we're back to looking at ERA now?
Convo Verified Member Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 Everything goes in cycles. ERA and bell bottoms are back. I would just like to be able to say Stroman has sucked so far with out having to hear about his FIP / xFIP. I hope he becomes a starter soon so we can see the regression to the mean; whatever that mean may be.

Exactly It's certainly better than what he's been I want to see him over 4-5 starts, using more pitches, before we decide where he should be this season
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 .........AL east is ripe for the taking. lets get shark. No thanks
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 The fact that Stroman is not a 100% lock in the spot now just shows the lack of confidence this club has in him. I'm not sure why the club would have a lack of confidence in him when the same applies to how the fan base feels about the team. I personally have more confidence in Stroman succeeding as a SP than the f***ing Blue Jays succeeding.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 Happ must have naked pics of AA... Only explanation for him still being on the 25 man roster, nevermind the rotation. Being on the 25 man roster alone is a head scratcher. Humans are creatures of habit. Remember the Jo-Jo experiment?
