Comx Verified Member Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 I'm compiling some stats and would like to also export all player data like date of birth (age), position, etc. I can export basically any other metric but this basic data eludes me... any idea? I would grab it from another site but I also need it to match up with the "playerid" field that FanGraphs uses. Thanks!
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 (edited) I don't think you can find position, but if you use a custom report, age is there as an option. Then, you can find a source that does have age, and use the VLOOKUP feature (I'm dumn) function, which JFaS, I, or other nerds could help you with. Do you know how to create a custom report? Nox Verified Member Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 Lahman database may be of interest as well.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 Lahman database may be of interest as well. This is only through 2013 though. A custom report, if you input it as a data connection, is updated whenever you make an edit to a cell.
Comx Verified Member Posted May 5, 2014 Author Posted May 5, 2014 Another newb question - I don't see a field for "Bats" (L or R or S)... does Fangraphs not have this?
Nox Verified Member Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 True, if he wants 2014 stuff Lahman isn't much help. By not much I mean 0.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 Another newb question - I don't see a field for "Bats" (L or R or S)... does Fangraphs not have this? Again, if you find a source that includes position and handedness, you can use the VLOOKUP function.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 You can get position from exporting from the fielding section, then match the fangraphs playerid. Keep in mind you'll get multiple instances of the player's stats (one for each position) though, so you'll have to choose how you want to deal with that.
