For those that don’t know, Fan Duel is an one day fantasy league type of thing. You deposit real money and sign up for as many leagues as you want for the day. Buy in for a league is anywhere between $1 and up.

There are different leagues such as head to head (you versuses one guy and winner takes around $90 of the money), tournament (10,000 people join for $2 and the top 1000 get money. First place gets $2000), etc

Anyways, you then have to make a team for the league you signed up for. The catch is that there is a salary cap of $35,000. So guys like Trout or stud starting pitchers will cost a lot and you’ll have start some scrubs at other positions.

The objective is to get the most points.

Hitting

A out is -0.25 points

A single, walk and HBP are one point

A double is two points

A triple is three points

A home run is 4 points

A RBI is 1 point

A Run is 1 point

A SB is 1 point

Pitching

A K is 1 point

A inning pitched is 1 point

A ER is -1 point

A win is 4 points

I’ve been playing for a week now and it is a lot of fun. It would be cool if I had some people to discuss strategy with!

I used to be a big sports betting guy and this has filled my sports betting urge (while saving money at the same time).

There apparently is a referral link I could give to you where it gives me points if you sign up. But it kind of feels cheesy for me to ask you to use it but if you want to sign up using it, let me know and I’ll go ahead and post it.

I play it occasionally, but never had sustained success. Sometime when I have the free time I'm going to approach it properly and see if I can find a model that works well.

My advice to you is to only play the 50/50 leagues or whatever they're called. The other models are very strongly influenced by fluke performances. Also, getting the pitcher right is pretty much critical, as is making sure your games aren't going to be rained out.

I work in an office so I check lineups regularly.

My strategy right now is to look at the pitcher vs batter stats. I like to go cheap on platoon guys like Raburn, Johnny Gomes who rake against lefties or righties.

I also take into account the ball parks and weather.

I think there is a lot of value with going with Morrow tonight (only $5300). He is due for a bounce back, is playing in a huge park, against a struggling offense and a NL line up. There should be a lot of K’s.

Don't use specific batter vs. specific pitcher past performances. It's way too small of a sample. Instead use handedness (like you have), FB and GB tendencies (match FB hitter with FB pitcher) and use the hell out of park factors. Away players in Coors A LOT.

Park factors: http://www.fangraphs.com/guts.aspx?type=pf&season=2013&teamid=0

The numbers here are halved. So Colorado actually gives a whopping 30% boost to hitters!

Thanks for this!

I've heard of it but haven't signed up, not sure why exactly, being a degenerate this seems right up my alley.

Sign up! It is a lot of fun. And it would be great if we could all discuss strategy on here.

Morrow is horribly risky imo. I think I'd be more inclined to go with Peralta or Leake if you're looking at the lower tier. From the upper tier, King Felix facing the anemic offense of Houston is pretty intriguing.

Morrow is an excellent pick tonight methinks.

Stop pimping your players!

Lol, nothing to do with my players. Morrow is hit or bust (and probably on a short leash), which makes him dangerous for this kind of fantasy format where you only get one pitcher. Most of the other guys in that range who could be interesting don't have matchups I would want to play (Salazar for example, since the white sox are tearing the cover off the ball so far, or Wheeler who will be pitching in Coors) or are doing Jekyll and Hyde impressions like Morrow.

I wish I had more time to play and actually research it. I love playing the tourneys (but if you are going to make money head to head is the way to go). On my way home I listened to the XM Fantasy Sports channel and they had a 1 hour show dedicated just to daily fantasy gambling and it gave me the itch. I think I only have $4.75 on my account. So next time I have a full day off I'll play the big $1 and Big $2 tourneys hoping to get a cash and give me some room to play bigger.

No. 1.00 5.00 10.00 25.00 50.00 and so on.

So far Ive came up with a line up of

P Cueto

C Thole

1B Pujols

2B Gyorko

3B Alavrez

OF Bautista

OF Granderson

OF Yelich

I might swap Bautista with McCutchen because Dickey blows. Still have to confirm lineups just before game time.

Good luck. I made a bit of cash on Fan Duel. Just received my cheque a few days ago. (arrived like a week after i requested, great customer service) I'm playing draft kings now though.

Also...it's quite addicting, as it's really fun.

why 40 or 80 50/50? whats the advantage over just playing one guy 50/50?

The people that put up single 50/50 games are likely the ones that do their homework :) Better to play against 40 or 80 as a lot probably don't. Also, it helps mitigate really bad luck.

lol I took until the last minute to set my line up and then it said the league was full. Guess Im not playing tonight.

You can set your lineup early to make sure you get in the league, then change it after up until the start time

I've played Fanduel and Starstreet. I preferred Starstreet because it had a better format that actually allowed for strategy. Over the course of the 2013 season I turned $25 into $75 just playing $1 head-to-head games. Then they changed the format to be just like Fanduel and eliminated the strategic element.

The games are pure gambling, plain and simple. Forcing you to pick a complete lineup of players and limiting your choices by salary cap significantly increases the luck factor because no amount of statistical analysis can help you accurately predict single game performance for that many players under those restrictions.

The previous format of Starstreet was brilliant because it allowed for a great deal of flexibility. You only had to pick a minimum of three players and could buy as many shares as you wanted and could afford of each player. That format allowed for statistical analysis, such as lefty-righty splits, park effects, and so on.

Currently in first place out of 20 with 39 points next guy with 35.

Where's the guy who made this thread in the first place??

39 is pretty good for your first lineup. You should place for $

I finished with 43. Still in first pretty sure I'll double up. It was the Miami players that came up big for me.

It's a 50/50? Yeah, you will place 100% in the $ then.

When looking at park factor, does it make sense to use the current year or should you go back to get a full season?

Also how are stats calculated that contain PF, do they use the previous year?

Jays4life19 with the early lead.

We won't mention this ever again. Many pitchers alone outscored my entire team. Did you enter the Freeroll...I think your score would have got you $2.
