BEN NICHOLSON-SMITH

The Toronto Blue Jays are set to promote catcher Erik Kratz to their active roster, industry sources told Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi.

The corresponding move is not yet known, but Dioner Navarro was replaced by Josh Thole in the eighth inning of Thursday’s game. Adding Kratz to the roster provides manager John Gibbons with an additional bench option as the Blue Jays head to a National League park for the first time this season.

The Blue Jays begin a three-game series in Pittsburgh Friday. They beat the Kansas City Royals Thursday to avoid a sweep and improve their record to 13-15.

Kratz appeared in seven games for the Blue Jays earlier in the season, hitting one home run. The 33-year-old has a career .219/.279/.410 batting line in five seasons with the Pirates, Philadelphia Phillies and Blue Jays.

How bout we call up a real MIF bat? Schimpf, Kawa, hell I'd even take Berti right about now. Kratz is a step in the right direction though.

Since I'm a bandwagon fan and I haven't watched a game since the Minnesota series - what happened to Navarro?

I was watching the game and I still don't know.

He should be the starter.

A Kratz/Thole duo might actually be acceptable

Could workout well for us. Kratz is the better catcher. Obviously Navarro was hitting well though and if other guys don't get going it hurts the lineup.

These two things aren't connected. Wins are wins wherever they come from.

Navarro last 474 PA: 116 wRC+ + negative D

Kratz last 427 PA: 82 wRC+ + positive D

Yes but....................Zero sum game!

The answer of course is no. There might be 3-4 catchers in all of baseball that are really good at everything.

LOL. I was thinking more Yadier Molina, Buster Posey and Salvador Perez, but sure... Borders. :)

That kid Yan Gomes is pretty good. Wonder if we could trade Esmil Rogers for him and some middle infield help?

We'd have to throw in our Manager.

Can't we just get 1 catcher that's good at everything?

That prototype does not exist.

Molina hit after start using steroids.

Posey to 1B very soon (ALA Mauer)

Wieters..............We still waiting.

Perez can't walk.

Agreed. Just look at all those catchers out there who would look good in a Jays uniform. How about Travis D'Arnaud? Or Jeff Mathis? Mike Napoli? John Buck? JP Arencibia? No wait, scratch that last one..............
