Aside from making a trade, who was your suggestion for MIF call up?

Me! ;) But seriously, that's kind of my point. AA didn't really go and get some depth for the MIF when over the past few years we've always needed someone at some time (Reyes going down, 2B always being an issue). Easier said than done I know. Going into the year 2B was a huge question mark and it seemed like they just ignored it thinking Goins would be it.

Surprising because prior to last year he was pretty efficient. He has too much speed to not be a force on the base paths.

I know

But he was getting caught stealing a lot in AAA last year

Gose in Buffalo last year: 22 successful stolen bases, 13 caught stealing

That's a TERRIBLE success rate for a guy who's that fast

He's not as fast as people think.

I don't get why it's a fad to like Gose. He's proven year-in and year-out that he just can't hit.

Its not really a fad. And you have to take into consideration the other aspects of his game.

Kinda like if Devon White couldn't hit HR's we could call him Anthony Gose.

They thought he needed steady playing time I suspect

They should be able to get him lots of playing now though. No Rajai Davis. Melky out a bit. Rasmus struggling.

Rasmus better be out the door. An extension is the absolute last thing I wanna see.

It's the defense

The speed is awesome too, but when we last saw him in the bigs he was still a poor base stealer despite it

It takes time for a base stealer to study and get down the nuances of MLB pitchers moves, timing, etc... Being jockeyed between the majors and minors doesn't allow for that development.

Yeah I'm done with Rasmus too, though Bautista is still a beast.

There are two viable options for the OF as far as I'm concerened:

1. Extend Melky and give Gose the CF job next year (if we're still going for it)

2. Trade Bautista away for multiple top 100 prospects, give Melky a QO and collect a draft pick (if it is deemed that a rebuild is required)

Either way you trade Rasmus mid-season if you can, qualify him if he's been just good enough for it to make sense, or let him walk if he's been s***

Agreed. Reservations about Ramsus aside, CF is one of the positions the Jays can most easily afford to not address. There's Gose, there's Pompey, there are a lot of other CF prospects in the minors while there are other positions where the cupboard is about to become completely bare. Middle infield is already a concern and the offensive postions like 1B, DH and the corner OF could dry up very shortly if they aren't addressed.

So how does that explain his lack of success in AAA, what is he 4 stolen 3 caught this year?

I just made it all up.

Thus there's no reason to and I've never heard of teams checking the time it takes for a specific pitcher to deliver the ball. Never heard teams or players watching a pitcher for a tip off, if he's going to the plate or throwing over.

Sorry for making s*** up

In my entire message board reading life, I've never before heard such garbage.

Maybe he is a bad base stealer? Maybe the fringe MLB pitchers in AAA and have been to the majors, are far more refined in what they need to do in controlling the running game than a 22/23 year old kid. Maybe some of the catcher's in AAA are guys destined to be MLB backup's (usually defensive specialists) who are good working with the former MLB or AAA level pitchers?

This part below is also a guess:

I forget if it was 2012 or 2013 and the word in Vegas or Buffalo was Gose looked very disinterested. He wasn't going hard for balls in the OF and I believe at one point was getting CS at the same rate as stealing. I believe in and around that time he could've actually made the team or been called up due to an injury (Melky, maybe??) but was still being kept in AAA. And I believe we saw it with a different pitcher last year and into this. Marcus Stroman making noise about not getting promoted last year. The situation being where someone doesn't get a promotion or recognized when the opportunity is there and they can see it. IMO you have two types of reactions...One being one that rebels and does less (Gose) and the other one who strives and tries harder as shown by example of Stroman who's gone out and dominated the IL so far.

Just guesses on my part and maybe looking too deep into things.

I know its a s*** attitude to have especially in pro sports. But when things like this happen you have different sets of personalities.

What's the purpose of a 1B coach?

Let me get this straight... you actually believe Gose going up and down from AAA to MLB a couple times has stunted his ability to steal bases??? I don't understand how a person with any shred of common sense could think that would have any more than a negligible impact.

If they're going to keep calling up light hitting middle infielders, just bring Kawasaki back. At least makes people laugh and gives a killer interview.

His speed plays in CF

His speed plays when he's trying to score from 2B or 1B

But he's just not a good base stealer yet. Will he learn to become one? I sure hope so. Get Tim Raines working with him!

What is the purpose of the 1B coach?

Is it to yell "back", because the runner on 1B can't see that the pitcher is gonna throw over?

Is it to tell the batter running to 1B to take 2B because the hitter can't see the play unravelling in front of him? Or in Sierra's case, not go to 2B on every ball he hits because he just isn't that fast to make it or bright enough to stop at 1B?

There has to be more to the job than that. Otherwise Mike Coolbaugh wasted his time for nothing.

True. When the team has zero chance of making the playoffs, entertain the crowd. It's Kawasaki's best tool, besides being one.

None of this adds any credibility to your 'theory' that Gose being sent up and down has stunted his base stealing ability (lol).

I never said it stunted it. I said it hasn't allowed it to develop. You can't learn anything about MLB pitchers being in AAA.

I wonder if Eragon believes MLB teams could actually do without a 1B coach since he refused to answer my question???

You implied that his s***** SB% is a direct correlation with his moving up and down. I never said anything about the 1B coach, you're implying a lot of things here.

There was once a joke about this. The purpose was to clap and high 5, but truly torelay the call from the 3b coach and provide argument if safe at first while timing the pitcher. It's the least important coach.
