G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 why is Sierra still in the lineup? To beat the number-of-Dominicans-in-the-lineup-record thing? He can be designated for assignment now, his work here is done

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 just voted LOL I voted "yes" after the game too #Hindsight
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Missed game today for baptism. Can someone tell me how dickey looked? Box score suggests he was good. He was every bit as good as the line looks In and around the zone all day. NO WALKS.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 I don't think it can be understated how important this is too - Dickey CAN do this against a good lineup. Just needs to do it more often obviously.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Had a great time at the game today. What I took away from the game 1. Sierra looks even more awful live 2. Reyes did not look comfortable at all today, looked like something was wrong? Unless, he has looked like that all season and it's just more noticeable live.

On #2, do you mean running or at the plate? If it's at the plate, I think he's swinging at too many balls right now, but he did work 2 walks yesterday including a really good at bat against Capuano. He's also going through ST basically.

Although his ABs wern't the best, I meant more his running. He looked to be running very awkwardly, and after every run/jog he leaned over for awhile or walked it off.

I was watching on TV when he was stealing on Cabrera's bloop in the 8th and slid into 2nd, got up when he realized Cabrera hit a single and sprinted to 3rd and slid again. I thought he may have gotten hurt again the way he stayed bending down for a bit. He's probably apprehensive about accelerating although he did accelerate twice on that play in the 8th. All this to say that I do agree he looks uncomfortable, but as I said, it may just be that he's not pushing it yet. Let's cross our fingers...
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 A few observations, as I was at the game myself: 1. Why is Sierra still in the majors? Gose and Mastroianni are waiting in AAA, get one of them up here! It would allow us to stop using Bautista in CF. 2. We could've blown out the Red Sox more if Jackie Bradley Jr. hadn't kept robbing us of base hits left and right.. too bad the Red Sox outfield isn't hitting at all. 3. Bogaerts is still a little raw defensively. 4. Don't really miss the Pizza Pizza 7 K promotion.. their pizza isn't that great. 5. Dickey was nasty today. 6. The Red Sox pen was not.. Andrew Miller was not good today, and Badenhop is a gas can.. why is John Farell using him so much? Especially considering Capuano has become a shutdown reliever instead of the long man/spot starter he was supposed to be. 7. DFA Sierra!
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 One more thing regarding Jackie Bradley Jr., he's the only regular on the Red Sox actually defending well, as several of their regulars in the OF and SS are costing them runs.. did you see Grady Sizemore in LF today, especially in the 7th? He was awful.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Him not being able to cutoff that Edwin liner before it got to the wall likely cost them a run.

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Why is Sierra still in the majors? Sierra's presence in the majors makes even less sense now that Mastroianni is in the fold. Mastroianni can do both of Sierra's jobs, backup OF and right-handed hitter off the bench, and be much better at the former and probably no worse at the later. Ideally, Kratz would be the main right-handed hitter with Gose or Mastroianni in a more limited role but if you must have one player to do be both backup OF and right-handed hitter, Mastroianni is the better option over Sierra and the terminally slumping Pillar.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Mastroiani is getting reps in CF on a regular basis. once the org finally drops Sierra and tries to get him through waivers they have two guys to pick from. Interesting choice too.

Interesting choice too. Yeah but what are they waiting for? Why did Mastroiani have to get reps in the minors in the first place? He's an established CF. The perfect time to sneak Sierra through was when Masto was added to the roster. They wouldn't have had to DFA Wilson if they had done that. All signs indicate that sneaking Sierra through waivers isn't the plan. The plan is to continue to give him chances until he gets hot (which is bound to happen if they wait long enough but doesn't really mean anything in the bigger picture).
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 I know they don't want to lose Sierra. But he's hurting the team in the mean time. We could really use a 4th OF with better defense (Gose) or better bat.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 I will put this here because I don't want to make a thread on it. But what do you do when Lindo comes back. I think he is eligible at the end of the week if Francisco keeps doing what he is doing? Would there be much of a Market for Lind because you can't keep all Edwin Lind and Francisco on the roster.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 There's room if they get rid of a reliever. Thole Diaz Sierra Francisco I don't actually think any of those guys should be on the team, but there's room if they want to make it work. if we go to a seven man pen who stays and who goes with janssen due back soon too? AA has to trade or be forced to move one soon or let one walk. The bench is a mess i am not in favour of bringing up Gose. Think he is more hype then good at this point. i think i would like Mastro up first if sierra is punted. I would also like to try Getz for awhile instead of Diaz.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 - option Jenkins and Loup - DFA Sierra and recall Mastroianni - option Diaz and recall Kawasaki - option Thole and recall Kratz Janssen Santos Delabar Cecil Happ Redmond Rogers Francisco Mastroianni Kawasaki Kratz I don't understand why'd you want to keep Francisco on the team. It's nice that he did well in a small sample size but that doesn't justify re-assessing hit talent level nor does it justify wasting a roster spot on a backup LH DH.

The padres and astros maybe? Would Lind,Gose and Stroman be enough to get the talks started for altuve and feldman ? what else might be needed? What would you be willing to give them?

He would appear to be an excellent backup 1B/DH to have in AAA. Better than David Cooper was.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Meh. I'd rather Loup spend a couple of weeks in Buffalo than lose Redmond or pay Rogers/Happ to play somewhere else. I know it's popular to s*** on Rogers and Happ, but they could still be very useful if/when injuries hit. At which point Loup would be back up. But the wins that we lose from some garbage reliever over Loup could be harmful. Maybe. I'd really rather just package some relievers in a deal for a bench piece or something, a la the Frieri/Amarista deal a while ago.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Puke puke puke puke. Altuve is a below average player. Feldman is a bad pitcher. Stroman > Altuve + Feldman, let alone Lind and Gose. The way I see it Feldman is no better than Happ. I can't stand the fact that he signed at 10m per year
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 (edited) Puke puke puke puke. Altuve is a below average player. Feldman is a bad pitcher. Stroman > Altuve + Feldman, let alone Lind and Gose. Yet both are better then what we have today! Alutuve is a upgrade on goins is he not, as a number 9 hitter! Rolling speed from the bottom to the top of the lineup! Never said I like Feldman but he helps them win on the money side as well and he at least would give us 6 from the fifth starter! The question started as a response to where might you trade Lind? Edited April 28, 2014 by BigBounceyBlueBalls
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 How are you coming to that conclusion ? Feldman and altuve come as only a five million add and AA even being cheap might do that! Lol if they add deshields or singleton would that appear more fair! What if you drop stroman and give them a Nolin or Norris! Would that even get there attention ?
