KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 He said yesterday during the game that he would make the pick after the game. And he also said he is very busy right now. If my turn comes up again before Sunday evening, give my picks to someone else. I'm going to be in the woods.

ace3113 Verified Member Posted June 1, 2014 Author Posted June 1, 2014 (edited) With the 25th pick in the First Round of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft, the Oakland Athletics select Ti'quan Forbes, a shortstop from Columbia HS, Mississippi. http://www.studentsports.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/Shortstop-Tiquan-Forbes-approaches-the-plate.jpg "Ti'quan is one of the youngest players eligible for this years draft, and we because of this, we feel he has more upside than most high school players. Not only is he playing against players who are almost a full year older than him, but he has performed at a high level in both high school and in many of the showcase tournaments. Ti'quan is tremendous all around talent. Our scouts think if any player can stay at shortstop at his size it will be Ti'quan. He's big and rangy and shows tremendous fluidity in his actions on the infield. While his arm strength is only average to slightly below at this point, it should improve immensely once he fills out a little bit. We believe if Ti'Quan eventually has to move off of shortstop he is athletic enough to shift to centerfield, where his speed would be a great asset. If he has to move to third base, we think his bat and raw power project enough to profile there. Wherever he ends up playing, he is an impact type of player if he can fulfill his potential. ace3113 Verified Member Posted June 1, 2014 Author Posted June 1, 2014 With the 26th pick in the First Round of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft, the Boston Red Sox select Derek Fisher, an outfielder from Virginia http://extras.mnginteractive.com/live/media/site139/2014/0312/20140312_053835_X197_518A_9_400.jpg "We considered a number of different options at this pick but in the end we couldn't pass up a guy like Derek with his athleticism, power, and ability to hit. He checked off a lot of boxes for us, when it came down to it. Derek reminds our scouts of a young Jay Bruce with his strong and fluid left handed swing. He has slightly less arm than Bruce, but we liked the overall profile, and see him moving quickly through our system. We think he's a guy that's going to blossom under our development system, and become an even better pro than he was a college player."

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 Okay, someone PM theHurl to pick for the Cards. Update list please.
ace3113 Verified Member Posted June 1, 2014 Author Posted June 1, 2014 OP updated. Hurl up to bat with the last pick in the 1st, non-compensatory round.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 (edited) GM Hurl meets with former GM and current St. Louis Cards President meet before the draft and tells him he's going to take his College pitcher with the 27th pick. Moz pulls him aside and says "do that and the Astros get the best bat in the draft at 30". Hurl responds that it's not Luhnow there anymore, it's some pimple faced kid that wouldn't know a college bat if he was anally raped with one. Hurl continues on about his hatred of fat chicks, leading to his hatred of fat baseball players. Moz, the new king of the bad body draft pick, trumps him on this one and provides this scouting report on the 27th pick of the draft... Kyle Schwarber 6'0" 240 Lbs. C-LF - Indiana University Surprisingly athletic for a big body. He's hit 12 triples (6 this year) in his three years at Indiana thrown in 10 steals in 13 attempts (23 of 32 in his 3 years). His defense as a receiver improved considerably in his run with USA Baseball's collegiate team and he's used his above average arm to throw out 33% of runners this year but he's probably a fringe defender at best. He's athletic enough to handle the OF. His bat is what will carry him, plus power (18 HR's in 2013, followed up with 13 this season), and a good eye (42 BB to 28K's this year). A leader on and off the field, this guy is as True a Card as there is. Schwarber > Conforto Edited June 1, 2014 by TheHurl
TheHurl Site Manager Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 Cards go for immediate help, the hardest thrower in the draft and select Louisville reliever Nick Burdi

NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 With the 28th pick in the 2014 First-Year Player Draft, the Kansas City Royals select Scott Blewett, a right-handed pitcher from Baker HS, Baldwinsville, New York. http://media.syracuse.com/post-standard/photo/2014/04/14665796-standard.jpg Our scouts love Scott's size and arsenal and we think he has an elite upside for a pitcher. We've had him up to 94 this spring with the fastball and the breaking ball -- a sharp 12-6 -- looks like a knockout offering as well. The changeup has rounded into shape as he's progressed. Scott is 6'6 and has a big frame; we expect this to allow his pitches to mature even further, he's what you'd call projectable. The arm action is very clean. We've very excited to get Scott into our system and working with our minor league coaches. He's going to be a big part of what we're doing going forward.
