I just heard but no need to push it with Santos filthifying, Wagner looking good and Redmond eating up innings in the pen

Bullpen is the one place we have LOTS of depth

Janssen can take his time. I just hope he recovers 100%.

Why are you guys so confident with Santos?

Yeah he has great stuff but he has no control.

His only had two perfect outings so far in 5/6 appearances.

He has a whip of 2.00.

Look at his stats from second half of 2013 then come back and apologize for questioning him.

I'm not generally anti-AA, but I really think he missed out on dealing Janssen at his peak value. Hindsight now with Santos looking good... But...

Janssen is probably the "star" player we can most afford to lose. But it would be nice to get him back at some point. We need all the quality arms we can muster in the pen because we never what we're getting from the starter consistently.

I'm assuming Lind will be fine if he hasn't been put on the DL yet? This mean we can see a full lineup for saturday? If not,

Reyes DH

Melky LF

Bautista RF

Edwin 1B

Navarro C

Rasmus CF

Lawrie 3B

Kawasaki SS

Goins/Diaz 2B

His peak might be at the trade deadline this year. There were too many closerish relievers available in the off season for him to have much value in all honesty.

Right now Santos should be the one with value. After this year he makes an average of $7.6 mil/yr which is very reasonable for a closer and its all options in case his arm blows up.

Ideally if we are in contention at the deadline Janssen should be moved out to the NL and we get back some kind of bench upgrade.

I would argue we could "afford to lose" RA Dickey

He doesn't understand what he should be doing with all this relief depth. Trade the 'closer' who inflated market value, the build up the perceived value of the other guys (like Delebar) by getting them saves.

Nah, I know RA has not been good this year but I'd prefer to lose the 60 IP Closer than 220 IP 4 ERA Starter considering the replacements are Santos/Delebar/Cecil vs Rogers/Happ.

And yet... other GMs found value in that crowded market.

Yeah, I was being 80% fececious.

What GM was that? The only closer I remember moving was Addison Reed and he doesn't really compare to Janssen as he is young, cheap, and not a pending FA.

Sure I like Janssen but if I was another GM why would I give up significant assets for him if I can just sign Balfour and all the other closer types available as a FA to 1-2 year deals. I think his value increases at the deadline when teams have injuries to deal with and no FA options, and he is an easy sell to Owners cause wont be owed much dollars.

I don't think we can QO Janssen and risk him agreeing at the end of the year.

Jim Johnson and Heath Bell were both traded this off season. Both are more expensive than Janssen and Santos.

This is a great typo considering that we're discussing crappy roster management.

There's no way in hell you QO him. Considering his injury issues the last few years though, it's quite possible we may be able to resign him at a decent price this offseason if we choose to.

No one is suggesting a QO. No relief pitcher in the world is worth 14+M.

I agree except maybe Kimbrel? Atleast that's where his salary is going.

The trade return on Heath Bell and Jim Johnson was putrid and not significant, though our 2b situation is so bad maybe Jemile Week is an upgrade?

so whose the closer for 2015?

pick up Santos for $6M? let Santos go for $750k? Sign Janssen for a reasonable sum? both? none?

who knows, probably depends on how each does this year...

I don't understand why they tried to rush him back so fast in the first place. We have no need right now. Should have took the full 30 days.

Same with Happ :(

With Janssen's injury and Santos' dominance, that option gets picked up for sure unless Santos has a huge setback of some kind.
