kgm1 Verified Member Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Ken, your second paragraph is the answer to your first paragraph. The Jays will keep all their vets to free agency and let them walk, because god forbid one fan gets upset the Jays traded a player away. While Rogers and Beeston are probably that stupid ,I honestly don't think AA is. If ownership and Accountants stick to their job and let AA run the club then I think they dismantle at the deadline if we are out of it. He didn't gut the minors this year when everyone was screaming for him to do something.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 And when he's good, he's f***ing great. All in all....he's streaky as f*** but I'll take him on a one year pillow contract since there is really no other better alternatives. Trading for a CF?
GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Trading for a CF? Like who? Marlon Byrd?

So dismantle to shortly thereafter make a trade to get old, broken and expensive again.
kgm1 Verified Member Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 If Rasmus is on this team next year I will be pissed. When you have NO money and holes he is very replaceable. Time for a Gose/Pillar platoon
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Like who? Marlon Byrd? I don't care to know what the thought process is of this FO any more. But with what we have, I'd rather Gose start in CF and let Colby go than extend Colby for even one year.

Now that they have hockey i don't think it happens again . Beeston will be gone I'm sure and AA if he is around will do it right.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Trading for a legit starting CF is easier said then done. Colby could easily put up a 3fWAR season next year. It's not crazy to think he would be open to a one year contract here where he's in an environment that he's comfortable and in a hitters ballpark to rebuild his value. You have the chance to turn him into a QO draft pick or a trade deadline deal if your out of it too in 2015.

A Gentry/Gose platoon would have been outstanding, and freed the team up to trade Rasmus at his peak value.
closetjaysfan Verified Member Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Reimold if healthy should give you an OPS of 800 + Trouble is he has had only 1 healthy season. You would have to platoon him occasionally and it just doesn't work to have so many platoons . Melky is the best option out there but I suspect someone will give him a 4/48 type deal. Are you willing to do That? Id like to think that Melky likes being here with the other Dominicans but there is a chance that it will cost even more than that to get him or a player with similar return as, generally, players are not attracted to playing in Canada. Frankly, if a player of his caliber wants to sign, 4/48 might be worth it.

Say Colby is inked to a 1 year deal like you say. If Colby were to put up a career year in 2015 I would still want him moved at the deadline.

And sadly I think the current FO is trying to balance selling tickets and trying to win by pushing a lot of money in to bring in name players......non-elite, past their prime names. And the names Bourjos & Gentry don't sell tickets.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 This team has some decent young players and good contracts. There's enough there to re-tool and emerge in 2015 with a younger cast. It doesn't have to be either "all in" or "blow it up." Trade one of Jose or Edwin for a top MLB-ready prospect, trade Buehrle with a little cash to free up payroll, take your lumps with Sanchez and Norris both in the rotation, etc. As much as I like this idea. It'll never happen.

It made 0 sense to go "all in" after the 2012 season. The only way it made some sort of sense was if you were hellbent on not going into 2013 being expected to lose 90-100 games.

CJ-Freeway Old-Timey Member Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 Jesus f***... just forfeit the season if that is going to be the outfield. This. My thoughts exactly.
theblujay Verified Member Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 This. My thoughts exactly. Um ok so you think they should forfeit the season if they had an outfield of Reimold and Gose/Pillar Well so far this year we've got 1.5 WAR from CF and 2.3 WAR from LF Gose/Pillar could certainly put up at least that much production in CF and idk what to make of Reimold healthy or not. But let's say he's replacement level. So I guess losing 2.3 WAR is enough to forfeit the season. Not like we can get that much back with the money saved.
BTS Community Moderator Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 Why is everyone handing Pillar a roster spot? He's 26 before the season starts, and our best guess is that he's about neutral defensively and on the bases and probably 20% below average offensively.

And we're not all super pessimists like you
kgm1 Verified Member Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 ZERO. Absolutely no evidence to support this. But evidence to support the contrary conclusion that it was AA's sole responsibility (beyond Beeston agreeing to act as the liaison to request the funds, and ownership green-lighting the additional funds). Believe what you want and Moot point anyway. Looking back and bitching about past trades takes up way too much space on this board.

Because he is there till Pompey shows up and Gose needs a platoon partner. he gets the space till a trade happens.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 Does Pillar have any options left we can use next year? What about Reimold?
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 Oh praise the lead programmer... MLBTR tells you who is out of options on every team's 40 man roster. Just found this: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/03/out-of-options-2014.html
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 Info is from March for 2014 Reimold was out of options even this year Pillar still had at least one, but we used one this year and may have been his last?
