Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 According to Taylor, the club broke the news in a meeting last week, citing displeasure with the management of Steam Whistle’s Twitter feed. Taylor says the club objected to Steam Whistle sending tweets about its Rogers Centre location, claiming they violated market agreements the Jays had with other brewers. is this what business has come to?
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2014 Author Posted March 24, 2014 To be fair, it could have threatened Jays' business with the other breweries. A significant chunk of the revenue comes from concessions anyway.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 I don't like Steam Whistle, so I don't really care, lol.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 I'm not a big fan of SW either but the location of the two could have had potential for a great partnership. This along with the Pizza change.. big offseason for the jays.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 This is just about the stupidest thing ever. "“I don’t know that there were any other issues,” Taylor says. “We had a good partnership. We made sure there was a constant supply of fresh craft Steam Whistle, and the fans seemed to love it. But they have their agreements and you have to be careful.”" It makes so much sense... they're literally located across the street. Reminds me of the personnel decisions that make so much sense but don't happen.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 I wonder how much SW relies on revenue from tours, because they are in the heart of the city. Who owns the land they are on? I know there is a Leons and a train museum there. That land would be worth a fortune.

Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 they no longer serve pizza pizza at the rc? It will be Pizza Nova now
Chappy Community Moderator Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 I can't remember if I've ever had Steam Whistle. I'm pretty sure I have and I'm pretty sure I hated it. I've had it a few times, been to the Steam Whistle across from the Rogers Centre as well, just not a huge fan of it.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 It will be Pizza Nova now best signing of the off-season. Pizza Pizza represents the overpriced free agent. Pizza Nova gives you the same product at a fraction of the contract size.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 They have horrible beer selection at the RC. I'm shocked they don't have any local Ontario stuff like Mill St, Beau's, Muskoka, Flying Monkey's etc. The only good beer they have now is this German beer and Sapporo. I only have one when I go to the games. People that buy 3-4 beers per game are nuts to spend $40 when you can buy a whole case for less lol.

I didn't even know they had Rolling Rock, I'm ok with that. The selection is weak, but I doubt it has any impact on their beer sales overall.

That's why people pound them back at the bars before/after games. I don't mind grabbing a few during a game since I don't go to that many games anymore anyways, but I do agree, the prices are kind of f***ed up.
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 If the RC sold St. Ambroise that would be just dandy.

Yup, my friends and I usually go to the loose moose or something close and share a few pitchers before the game. I feel dumb buying any more than 2 beers during the game, but my friends usually have 3+
Camps Verified Member Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 Do the Steamwhistle tour before the game and get a bunch of delicious Toronto beer for the price of one AB/Inbev product inside.
Brenner Verified Member Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 Don't remember Steamwhistle ever being available at any vendors I saw at any games last year. I would have much preferred Steamwhistle to Bud.
Errorcebia Verified Member Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 The beer sucks pretty bad. There are much better craft beers from Ontario.

We'll go to Corks before the game on Saturday and/or afterwards. Great beer and food for great prices!

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 Where is that? I don't think I've ever seen that place before. Downstairs in the Longo's at Maple Leafs Square. Best place to go grab a couple of beers and some food before any game. Can't beat the value.

KSaw Verified Member Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 I laugh at hearing Steam Whistle sucks. Considering that it's almost an exact replica recipe to original Pilsner beer, with no additives or preservatives, and isn't a unique flavoured beer, just say, "I don't like Pilsners." I will say this though-- every Steam Whistle that comes out of a glass front fridge tastes horrible. Vendors need a clue. Beer in clear or green bottles goes bad in a matter of hours when exposed to light.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 Steamwhistle's s***. Yeah, but Bud is the shittiest. I will never understand people who like that crap.

I like some Pilsners though, basterdized as they may be, that's like saying that if I don't like Busch then I can't like Mooshead. All Beers aren't created equal, but I'll settle for the fact that they get the job done.

I'm thinking someone should make a reso somewhere cause all the bars are going to be packed after the game. You can't make reservations there, but I'm sure after the game it should be fine for sure as long as there isn't a hockey game that night. Most people/casual baseball fans try to head to Real Sports, Loose Moose, Jack Astors, Boston Pizza etc for drinks/food before and after the games. There are a ton of great bars further north from the RC around Dundas/University or close to the St. Lawrence Market. Even the Distillery District (Mill St. Brewery) or Bellwood Brewery would be great places to go to after the game and we could likely make reservations there.
