What I've seen is that anyone with a different thought process gets childishly attacked, and then the cries for banning are soon to follow ... and the hive eventually gets its wish.

 

I disagree with a lot of the "WAR is the end all be all" perspective, because WAR is a very poor analytic. So are a lot of the others (the basic, "ancient" permutations and the earlier permutations of "advanced" analysis which are now considered relics) ... so they should be used in conjunction, to construct a proper view of things. I'm not at all anti-sabr, insofar as sabr analysis wishes to more intensely deconstruct the mythological baseball world. Quite the opposite, in fact. I think WAR, and current analytics in a similar vein, are very, very rudimentary. I think the new video system will do a great deal to rectify the limitations. I'm not ignorant of statistical analysis. In fact, through my education, career and general interests (many moons ago, I read derivative financial instrument pricing and risk analysis textbooks for "fun" in my spare time ... eventually such things became more than a hobby), I embrace statistical analysis, when, and how, it's appropriate.

 

Regardless, since I come with this approach and am not at all afraid to express my disagreement with a foolish notion ... and since I don't back down from what I have received, in terms of abuse, and I am willing to give what I receive, all of a sudden, the girls on the playground run to get me banned. It's beyond childish. Grow up. Shut up and talk. And, yes, that statement makes perfect sense. I have my 4 and 6 year old boys trained better than some of you, honestly.

That's what I'm saying. Moogy called JFaS out for using WAR as a predictive statistic, but that isn't what he's doing. He's using pitch data as a predictive statistic and then projecting WAR.

 

Sorry, to clarify I meant that in addition to your post. Moogy was/is clearly overlooking the term projection. You project stats that aren't predictive by analyzing stats that are predictive.
