I would hope he wants to be in the starting rotation in the BIGS, if he said he wanted to be the ace in New Hampshire I would be worried

No news is sometimes better than spring training news.

This is the guy to be excited about as most likely prospect to succeed this year (or next), looking forward to seeing him pitch in Dunedin next week!!

He has a pretty good chance at cracking the starting rotation sometime this year - what's your likelihood of winning the lottery?

I meant it like this... I hope to make a lot of $$$ some day. Stroman hopes to be in a ML rotation. Both are obvious assumptions. Spring Training articles are funny.

Hope definitely seems to be the common theme with the 2014 Blue Jays...

I guess when you don't have much else to stand on you resort to hope! It sounds kinda familiar actually...

There was actually article based on "Blue Jays hope victories are biggest addition in '14" LOL

most of the educated fans are hoping for an upper management change so we dont end up in a bigger hole than we are now.

God I hate AA. The way he pisses on us and tell's us is raining is just amazing. He said he would bring in two maybe three starting pitchers at the beginning of the off-season. Now the best we can hope for is that AA might make an actual offer before Santana and Capuano are gone.

Yup, the perfect combination of incompetence and shamelessness wrapped in a fat package.

I mean honestly how long can the team go on with a GM asleep at the wheel? I could see the argument for giving him some rope otherwise but it's like he's not even trying anymore. It's pathetic. Beaston's justification for last off-season's failures, was "at least we tried" so what's the justification for this one? I mean I realize that there were some moves that didn't fall through but the fact that Toronto COULD have had Kinsler and Anderson doesn't do a whole for what Toronto DOES have which is far too many holes. The team has a couple of guys to replace JPA but no replacement for Johnson, no replacement for Bonifacio (who wasn't much of a 2B to begin with but that's a different story) and no right-handed bat to replace the two that left (Derosa and Davis). WTF?

When the injuries inevitability hit Alex will just use them as a excuse as to why the team didn't perform up to the expectations. He actually had the nerve to bring up Chien-Ming Wang and Ramon Ortiz getting starts last year as a way to put a positive spin on this year's chances. It's like he's completely unaware that it was his responsibility to shore up the depth.

I lost a lot of faith in him after the 2012 offseason when he sat on his hands and declared the team "not ready" to make any big splashes... Then last year I tried rationalizing the misguided change in direction by pinning things mostly on Beeston, but this offseason's total incompetence has made me completely lose hope for the fat bastard.

He's still capable of a shrewd move like the Kratz deal but the seeming lack of urgency with which he's acted this year is alarming. You shouldn't have to move earth and moon to put together a good bench. That should have been the bare minimum on his to do list.

A year in AAA is better for him, then August call up. He hasn't pitched many innings last 2 years. Don't do another Hutchinson, stretch this guy out. Give Nolin or Drabek the chance first, likely last chance either of those 2 will get

That could mean trade him in the trade-deadline.

This was the year to be aggressive in free agency and shrewd in the trade market

If the Jays don't add a starter they need to go with the best five they have, At this point there is little doubt Stroman isn't one of them.

Hutch / JJ

Goins / Boni

RH bat / Sierra

God i hope he's eyeballing the 2015 pool and decided it's smarter in the long term to wait it out.

Yes there are some internal replacements but it's absurd to be content with them. Sierra doesn't even have a favorable platoon split. He's pretty close to bringing nothing to the table. I much prefer Pillar but since Pillar has options, there was no reason not to get a Major League replacement and DFA Sierra and have Pillar as insurance. Hutch and Goins also have options and would also be better off in the minors. When you push the players that should be your emergency replacements onto the 25 man roster from the get-go, you're left with poor depth. That being said, this argument has been made with you countless times in the Goins thread so I doubt you'll change your tune about the validity of starting the season this way.

You missed my point completely.

I don't think there is anyway that Stroman breaks camp with the team no matter how good he looks this spring, they won't start his arbitration clock earlier than they need to. Which would be only their second smart move of this offseason (other being dumping JPA)

Then you underestimate just how desperate this organization is right now, with good reason.
