JaysFan4Ever Verified Member Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Pure speculation on my part, so apologies in advance, but referencing what AA said not too long ago about being in contact with a player who used to play every day, made some money and is looking to reestablish himself for next year, any chance it might be Grady Sizemore? Seems like he'd be one of those guys who would be a low risk high reward reclamation project AA seems to like. If he's healthy he might put up decent numbers and has played CF which would give the Jays a back up CF like they're looking for. Then again, he's missed substantial time with that knee injury and might not be able to play CF decently enough, hits left which would take a RH bat platoon away from Lind and is a health concern along with being out so long. Maybe a minor league deal with an invite with an incentive laden contract. I only thought of it because I saw his name pop up today and it seems like a fit. I'm probably wrong and wasted a post.
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Yes please. I doubt he'd take a minor league deal, but I guess it's possible. Even if he needs a big league one, I'd probably give it to him.
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 inb4 Tampa Bay gets him cheap
Nabru Verified Member Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 I like the idea from a Toronto fan's perspective but you'd have to wonder if an oft-injured center fielder would want to revive his ML career on SkyDome turf.

Even if he needs a big league one, I'd probably give it to him. That would probably be a clincher for him, ML deal and a spot on the roster instead of an invite. Base salary as well. If he winds up putting up decent numbers, he could always be trade bait. If he falters not out much.

That seems to be what might keep him away. Having that knee fracture that kept him out so long might play in his mind running on carpet.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 A left handed hitting outfielder isn't exactly the best fit for us.
bendera3 Verified Member Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Want. So did the Red Sox, apparently.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 God damnit. Time to change the tittle "RED SOX f*** JAYS AGAIN"
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 You're not going to get any extra wins with both he and Rasmus facing lefties. We also have one at DH, just not a good fit.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Damn it.. Can we do SOMETHING?
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Time to change the tittle "RED SOX f*** JAYS AGAIN" With a picture John Farrell doing AA from behind?
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 poor man's jacoby Like JPA is a poor man's Y.Molina.. sure...
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 With a picture John Farrell doing AA from behind? And Napoli with a portrait of Francisco "Loser"
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 He went to the Red Sox apparently. 750k major league deal with incentives up to 6M
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 He went to the Red Sox apparently. 750k major league deal with incentives up to 6M oh but we don't like incentives for some stupid f***ing reason.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 Like JPA is a poor man's Y.Molina.. sure... Except Sizemore has actually produced more than Ellsbury in his career. He's already been decimated with injuries, lets not pile on with JPA analogies lol.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 Depth is not a bad thing. It's a minor league contract, and he's not limited to CF. It's not a minor league contract.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 We could use a platoon guy for Lind. To be an *******, handedness still doesn't make a difference sometimes. Maybe there's a lefty out there who can hit lefties at a regressed .350 wOBA or something. We're not looking for a righty bat to pair with Lind, we're just looking for someone who can hit lefties to pair with Lind. There's a difference, even if it's pretty rare. But I do enjoy being a pedantic bastard sometimes.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 If i had to guess i think it's likely that Sizemore was the guy AA was talking about when he referred to talking to a guy to be a bench piece who use to be a regular and was looking for more playing time to set him up the following year.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 jcrasnick Chone Figgins is closing in on minor league deal with #dodgers, source says. Includes invite to big league camp. The Orioles are smiling right now.
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 Not sure, but are these guys still free agents? Berkman Jeff Baker Reed Johnson Andres Torres
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 Anyone know if Justin Turner can play 2nd base well (or acceptably well)? Possible platoon guy there?
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 Anyone know if Justin Turner can play 2nd base well (or acceptably well)? Possible platoon guy there? I'm pretty sure he's a butcher. At least the numbers say he is and he moves like a 1B. I know Turner very well.............He suck; can't take a walk or catch the ball.
