raBBit Verified Member Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 With a lot of posters upset with the Jays lack of activity this offseason, which team's offseason do you like the most at this point? Obviously there is still a set of free agents to chose from and a couple trades still to happen but in a downtime for news, I'm interested in who's offseason you guys like so far. Who's do you hate? I like what the Nationals have done in getting Fister for way below his value. I hate what Kevin Towers has done in Arizona. Who do you guys have?
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Mariners win the offseason, lol I assume this is a joke.
raBBit Verified Member Posted January 7, 2014 Author Posted January 7, 2014 The White Sox have had an okay offseason, I think. I have seen them mentioned a lot by MLB network. For a team with no young, talented positional players coming into the offseason, infusing four new faces since July has to be nice. RF Avisail Garcia 1B Jose Abreu CF Adam Eaton 3B Matt Davidson
GD Old-Timey Member Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 White Sox have done real well, off the top of my head Angels and Nats. Oakland too. Really underrated. Texas, maybe, depending on who you ask.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 (edited) Jays off-season has gone way better than I expected, I have it as the best in the AL East. (Note: That this is in comparison to the blow up/Panic moves I saw coming) Baltimore - some bullpen moves...should have traded at a high last year though. Boston - Let Drew walk going to go with Xander, like the move to bring Herrera in to back him up. I think Mujica blows up for them though. Pieguy is a well known *******, should fit in with that city well. Yankees - 5 new offensive starters. I can't even begin to attempt to figure if this will work. Zero pitching depth, will be pretty close to what the Jays of 2012-13 were if they have any injuries...which is asking a lot for them not to have. Rays - Hanigan, Sands and Bell...hard to be impressed with this. No way they keep Odorizzi in the minors for another year, so I'll wait to see what they get for Price. TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 White Sox would have a very complete off-season by picking up some scrap heap right handed starters as insurance. They can't go in with Felipe Paulino as their #4 and Erik Johnson (who I don't mind) as #5. Another lefty in Surkamp and Nestor Molina are probably next in line. Konerko/Keppinger/Viciedo as a bench sounds much better than how it will probably perform. They still have some possible players to deal I suppose.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 wut no more JPA, didn't increase the payroll by much more than what was already known, find out what they have in couple recovering from injury pitchers. I'm a big advocate of the hope and pray method for this team. It's still early though.

Erik Johnson is their #4 and they're fairly confident in him. Doesn't do anything extraordinarily well but has good control, good off-speed and is a strong competitor. He'll assume Gavin Floyd's role very well. Johnson will line up 50-100 on most if not all big prospect lists. Their 5 spot will be between Eric Surkhamp and Andre Riezno (Brazilian pitcher) as Paulino won't be ready for OD. Don't rule out Paulino though, he is exactly the type of guy who Don Cooper (WSox pitching coach) can make into a serviceable starting pitcher. Interesting you threw in Nestor Molina, probably because he's a former Jays farm hand, but he is probably the 40th man on the 40 man roster. Many out in Chicago thought he'd be released when they signed Downs/Belisario. As little as Santos has given our Jays, Molina will most likely never give that much for the White Sox.

I think AA is counting on that too, it could start to catch on.

I was just looking at it from a 40 man point of view and missed Rienzo and yes he'd be the next to get the call. Surkamp gives them 4 lefties...that's going to kill them in a division where Tigers, Indians and Royals all hit lefties quite well. They are in interesting team for sure and I expect they'll be the dream destination for any RHP who can only get a minor league deal with an invite to spring training. Any time a team can add 3 offensive starters (I'm not huge on Matty D but love Eaton) and will probably decrease payroll it's a good off-season. It's one of those off-seasons that sets up up for moves the next year (especially since Dunn comes off the books I believe).

If not, I don't mind going into the season with whatever we have. The only thing I'm disappointed about is not getting a second baseman.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Got to love what the cards did with Bourjos, Peralta, and Ellis that team has no glaring weakness.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 +1 for the cards. Unlike a certain team, they went out immediately and filled every hole on the roster extremely effectively. Surprisingly disappointed in the Rays but I guess you have to wait for the Price trade.

Chris Sale gets everybody out. Quintana gets out LH and RH equally. Danks gets out RH better than LH. So it really doesn't matter. I'm with you on Davidson/Eaton. Got to love what the cards did with Bourjos, Peralta, and Ellis that team has no glaring weakness. I love the Bourjos pick up for sure. Ellis should be great for them and Matheny will probably utilize that platoon with him Wong. Peralta is whatever but he doesn't seem like a Cardinal and especially not at the price they signed him for.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Cardinals. They boosted their depth by signing Mark Ellis, traded for Peter Bourjos, filled their SS hole with Jhonny Peralta, and have top OF prospect Oscar Taveras on the way. They'll be a favorite in the Central again.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 A Wrench In The Plan, hands down.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Hahaha yes, in terms of team improvement, 5YP > WTP for sure. WTP is a better contender though.
