I'm alright with the Jays not signing Tanaka. The man is going to be paid like an elite Free Agent. I'd rather focus our resources on a plethora of talent - Franklin/Ackley trade. Denforia trade. Garza/Jiminez Signing (whoever falls to us). Then let's pray to god we stay healthy.....

Yes. But the ship has sailed on options like Ruiz, Hanigan, Trading Santos for Gentry and in turn get a Starter (Anderson).

 

Is Ublado ideal? No... But if he falls to us like a Kyle Lohse situation then i'm alright with it given our roster and lack of options. Same with Garza.

 

I would argue that 2nd base should be just as much as a priority as SP.

I'm pretty sure Ruiz has a say in things...he wanted to sign where he did....Santos failed his medical....we can't just trade for this player or that player because teams aren't willing to voluntarily just help the jays out because you want them too.....too funny....baseball is so easy on a message board...

you're right...my bad..for some reason I thought it was Santos....still...if guys are on an internet message board can come up with a trade where the jays rape another team...don't you think the opposing GMs in the game might just decline those trades...I'm not saying I don't enjoy reading all the doom and gloom and complainers on the boards...but many have a distorted sense of reality.

I feel like I'm more optimistic about this team then the majority here.

 

I don't blame AA for not pulling the trigger if players like "shark" cost both sanchez + Stro. Or if Price cost Eddy+. Obviously the Free agent starting pitching is over priced and i don't blame AA for not paying ++ $$ for the likes of Santana or Jiminez unless their prices fall.

 

I do blame AA for not upgrading 2nd though - we could have offered Mark Ellis a guaranteed starting spot and some $$. We'll see though.....

 

AA has said he's looking for a platoon for Lind and CF Depth so I'll withhold judgement until the offseason is over.

Funny thing about the Cubs, Epstein earlier today said that he admits the Cubs are a last place team. So even if they get him, they may not be competitive at all. And Casey Close has shown in his previous negotiations to include an opt-out clause after x number of years. So Tanaka could sign a 6 year deal with an opt-out at 3 years.

 

It'll take a few years until studs like Bryant will be able to contribute, so the Cubs may not even take advantage of Tanaka if he were to blossom.

Factor in the 20 million posting fee.. It doesn't make alot of sense to pay a guy alot of money only to see him walk away once your prospects are starting to emerge on the MLB level.

Given everything that has occurred the last year or so, it seems to me the Jays signing Garza is what may actually occur.

 

Failing that, there might be a trade involving Seattle or the LA Dodgers. I can't figure the Dodgers extending Kershaw AND chasing Tanaka unless they have some trade possibilities already in hand. Even a TV money rich team has some limits, and they might want to pare their longer term commitments somewhat. More likely though is the Dodgers aren't really seriously chasing Tanaka hard and Seattle (or the Cubs, White Sox ? ) are the real favorites despite what the media reports. My hope is Tanaka goes to Seattle ( love him on Jays but doesn't seem likely now ), and Toronto makes a trade with Seattle to address our SP and/or 2B.

Jays are not in on Tanaka according to MLBTR but are involved with the next set of free agents. AA doesn't mind giving up a 2nd round pick.
