KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Astros Sign Colby to 1 year $8M deal and DFA Carlos Corporan. The initial report I read had said 4 million which seemed an awfully low amount for the O's to fail to match. Eight million makes a lot more sense. Still should come under Fowler's arb settlement and they got Straily + to work with.

Basically, the Astros give up nothing and get a couple million + Valbuena + Straily.
baubau Verified Member Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 That is a solid signing and good deal for the Astros. Hell if Colby does well enough and the team is out of the playoff race they could flip him for another asset at the deadline. I also glad the O's missed out on getting him.

Yeah I heard an update on the fan saying 4 mill for one year, and I almost couldn't believe it.

Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 I would trade Appel in a heartbeat. Amaro might be dumb enough to take Appel as a centerpiece. Appel is going to be that bad, IYO?
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Appel is going to be that bad, IYO? Probably not bad but he's been pretty damn overrated.
Inklink Old-Timey Member Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 That game where Rasmus was taken out of the lineup because he came to the park late...wasn't that in Houston?

I hope this is some kind of fantasy league joke, and not you falling for Cal League numbers. I think he's going to be much more than good. Probably doesn't hurt that the only game I actually saw him since he left Stanford is the Frisco game where he made Gallo et al look foolish (Skole and Alfaro actually looked much worse than Gallo but it's fun to take Gallo shots). I got only a few minor league pitching boners last year, that outing was the second best one I got (the first being the Severino game that was so painful not to talk about on the boards but I had two upcoming drafts)

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 ROFL. Bonds the personal trainer AKA supplying Arod with a f***ing cornucopia of PEDs (in addition to the batch he's already taking). There was an article that came out saying that ARod has been taking PEDs for so long that his body can no longer manufacture testosterone organically. He had a medical exception for awhile but from what I understand, his exception has been revoked which leaves him kind of f***ed. It's basically impossible for him to function much less perform without PEDs so he needs to find an optimal way of masking it. Given that Bonds basically turned his body into a human lab, he might have some advice to share about that.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Scutaro DFA. BBBB is going to have an aneurysm. Probably retires but if he's willing to accept a MiLB deal, gitty up. He's basically a less sucky Maicer Izturis.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 If Goins started working out with Barry, and showed up to Spring Training with 30 HR power and an oversized head, I'd approve.

TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 In other words, ARod has evolved into a girly man? I think devolved is a more appropriate word.

He has a year left on his contract, I doubt he has any intention of retiring. He'll clear waivers, and it'll simply free up the spot on the 40 man.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Lol ARod is awesome. I really hope that's an intentional troll.

He'll clear waivers, and it'll simply free up the spot on the 40 man. O.K. I'm just reading the MLBTR piece now: San Francisco expects to retain Scutaro once he clears outright waivers, which seems a virtual certainty given his injury status and the $6MM left on his deal. Per Schulman, the team still hopes that the 39-year-old veteran will be able to return from his back issues (which included surgery in December).
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 MLB might be moving the Rule 4 draft back to July 1, and July 15 signing deadline: Do you know what the rationale is?
SaskJaysFan_2 Verified Member Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 It'd be a great change.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Allow college world series players to finish their seasons before they are drafted. So does this mean the start of short season ball will get pushed back to July and will run through September?
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Err, didn't know this was being discussed in here. Ill double-post the stuff I put in the draft thread: Takes: Peter Gammons: NCAA Coaches and MLB officials met Monday, general agreement on a July 1 draft and July 15 signing deadline John Manuel: big, if true John Manuel: If the draft moves to July 1, they better move the int'l signing date or start having an int'l draft, or BA will break between July 1 & 2 JJ Cooper: If this happens, biggest drawback would be for NY-P/NWL. Either start season with drastically depleted rosters or move season back Ben Badler: Would be pretty bonkers if, as @pgammo wrote could happen, MLB put the draft the day before July 2. Ben Badler: Of course, the commissioner's office has also been trying to implement an international draft. Timing sure is fascinating. Eno Sarris: Moving the draft later was step one in my two step process to improve it as a TV event http://www.sportsonearth.com/article/78916112/mlb-june-draft-more-popular-event JJ Cooper: For MLB, moving draft back would mean teams no longer have to worry about their draft pick getting overused/hurt post draft in CWS. Scott Weber: MLB moving the draft to July 1st -- I like this. Allow college kids to finish college playoffs and reduce negotiating window to two weeks. Bill Mitchell: Don't see logic for MLB moving draft back. Delaying start of pro career for hundreds to benefit handful of draftable players in CWS?
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Topps making a new baseball card series for celebrities who threw out first pitches. TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Lol, update on the draft stuff.... they can't move it out of June without opening up the CBA... so all this stuff was a waste of time and words. It's not happening this year.
