ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 On the other hand, does this prove that Blair wasn't making this up and that there are a bunch of loudmouths on this board who, when proven wrong, just go on in their little world? Who really knows.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 Martin to meet with four teams with the Jays being one of them! so far! Cubs have already had thier meeting! What do we need to offer Martin 4/ 17.5 ? What we thinking here? Or will we need a bigger hammer? Also question part 2 if we sign Martin do you trade navarro( Cubs) or keep him? I expect Martin to get around 5/70 (14 per). As for trading Navarro, I think you look at the Dodgers (add Happ or Estrada and get Van Slyke?) or perhaps the Mariners straight up for Saunders.

Did you miss the part where Andrew Friedman went there
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 Did you miss the part where Andrew Friedman and Farhan Zaidi went there, and AA still with us? Corregi eso por ti!

kgm1 Verified Member Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 LA has been down that road with Dionner. He got too lazy and out of shape for them. They will be the ones chasing Martin because they believe in Pitch framing and defensive runs saved. That said I don't think Martin goes back there after they cut him. I think they Jays rumor on Martin is just that! " Rumor" We have more of a chance of Navarro coming to camp in shape and I don't believe that will happen either.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 You're barking up the wrong tree now with LA. I'm not so sure, but we'll know fairly early on imo. It's unlikely Martin will be going there, there's almost nothing else on the FA list for catchers, and their catchers last year were a disaster (negative WAR, although I haven't looked up their framing stats). LA has a big mess in the outfield to sort out and needs some pitching at a reasonable price. I think it's actually a decent fit for both teams.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 It's unlikely Martin will be going there I'm not sure why you say this. Also, Ellis ~= Navarro.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 I'm not sure why you say this. Also, Ellis ~= Navarro. Because the Dodgers basically told him to take a pay cut or they would send him packing (which they did)? I doubt he's going to be inclined to go back.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 What's Martin's projected war included framing?
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 I'm not sure why you say this. Also, Ellis ~= Navarro. Martin is less likely to sign with the Dodgers than not sign with the Dodgers. Also, you didn't even predict Martin to them in the contest...
GD Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 What's Martin's projected war included framing? one crapton Martin is less likely to sign with the Dodgers than not sign with the Dodgers. Also, you didn't even predict Martin to them in the contest... I expect them to be in the running.

I imagine that Friedman, Zaidi and their team are aware of this.

jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 Yankees sign OF Chris B. Young to a 1-year/$2.5M+incentives deal.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 Yankees sign OF Chris B. Young to a 1-year/$2.5M+incentives deal. f***.....Now we have to pay 7,5M to Aoki!!
bendera3 Verified Member Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 f***.....Now we have to pay 7,5M to Aoki!! Ichiro is a free agent. I know he's old but he still seems to get on base at a decent clip. I don't know how much he'd cost but i don't think he'd be a bad player to have as a semi regular.

I like the idea of Ichiro as a 4th OF, but probably not the sort of player I'd want to rely on for my everyday left field duties..
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 Odd thing, I was just looking at both of those two players. Was wondering would a Aoki,Ichiro platoon in Lf play? Both would come cheap and can hit, steal some, and spell joey in Rf. That plus both might be less then Melky or a Cruz combined!

On a side note, now crazy is it that BOTH lefties actually hit LHP slightly better...
BTS Community Moderator Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 Ichiro is replacement-level now. Gose can do the 4th OF job better, and for a lot cheaper.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 Ichiro has been a well-below-average offensive player for the past four seasons... and now he's 41. Guy should have retired in 2011. And he apparently sticks to himself, wouldn't be the type of veteran influence that Mark DeRosa or Raul Ibanez are.

One of my favourite players ever, but now I'll remember him as the washed up vet clinging to his career.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 Imagine Ichiro, and Kawasaki on the same team! The marketing this team could do!!!!
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 Nice deal by the Yankees signing Chris Young. Can't go wrong with that signing.
LongTimeReader Verified Member Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 Ichiro really needs to retire already, he probably provides negative value next year
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 Ichiro really needs to retire already, he probably provides negative value next year He should probably sign a one-day contract with the Mariners and then retire. If he wants to play again for one more season, sign with the Mariners and then call it a day.
